6 new super cheesy Christmas movies you must watch this weekend.

The three best things about Christmas are: 1. time with loved ones, 2. food, and 3. ridiculous, wholesome Christmas flicks.

I can't help you with the first two, but the third... well, that is a specialty of mine. There is nothing I love more than a Christmas movie, especially if it's cheesy, goofy or best of all, so unashamedly bad that it's good.

Each year, we are #blessed with more of these wonderfully ridiculous festive films, and while 2021 has been horrendous in almost every other way, it has still delivered some jolly holiday watches.

Here are the movies to put on your 2021 Christmas watch list this weekend.

Single All The Way.

'People pretending to be in a relationship fall in love for real' is such a stupid rom-com trope, so naturally, I bloody love it.

In Single All the Way, besties Peter (Michael Urie) and Nick (Philemon Chambers) agree to pretend they're together so that Peter's family stops bothering him about being single.

But before they get a chance to share the (fake) news, Peter's mother sets him up on a blind date with her hot personal trainer, putting their original plan in disarray.

It's as sugary and predictable as all good Xmas rom-coms should be, with the added benefit of starring actual icon Jennifer Coolidge as the family's glam aunt who is putting on a Christmas play.

I would watch Jennifer Coolidge in literally anything.

A Boy Called Christmas.

I am later going to recommend something with 'Real Housewives' in the title, but first, something a little more... prestigious. No really. This cinema release has Dame Maggie bloody Smith in it.

This British fantasy is based on a childrens book of the same name by Matt Haig, whose name you might recognise as the author of Reasons to Stay Alive and The Midnight Library.

Like most Christmas films, it begins with a... dead parent. I know, I know. But it gets less depressing, I swear.

It's Christmas Eve, and siblings whose mother had recently died are put into the care of Aunt Ruth (Smith), because their dad needs to leave urgently for work. Aunt Ruth keeps them busy with a Christmas tale, about a boy named Nikolas who (alongside a pet mouse and a reindeer, of course), sets out on an adventure to find his father. 

A Boy Called Christmas tells an origin story for Father Christmas. It's extremely predictable, but Christmas movies don't need surprises - all they need is holiday spirit, and I promise this has that in spades.

A Boy Called Christmas is screening in select cinemas, or you can rent it on Amazon Prime Video.

Christmas on the Farm.

Following 2020's genuinely very good A Sunburnt Christmas, Stan has gifted us another Aussie original Christmas movie in 2021.

Christmas On The Farm is a classic holiday rom-com that explores the life of Australian author Clementine Jones Montgomery, whose book details the nature of growing up on the outskirts of Queensland at an idyllic farm with her husband and daughter. The book, a collection of recipes and sweet anecdotes about Aussie life, is almost guaranteed to become an international bestseller... except, well, 'Clementine' is actually her daughter Emmy, who tries to pass off her late mother's journals as her own. 

In order to get her coveted book deal, Emmy must host the publishers in her late mother's home to show them what a real, authentic Australian Christmas is really like. To convince them she is who she claims to be, Emmy will rope in her cousin David (Hugh Sheridan) and his husband Miles (Nicholas Brown) to help maintain her ruse. 

Cue: chaos.

Christmas on the Farm is filled with romance, twists and turns, and some bloody great comedy.

Love Hard.

Another enduring rom-com trope is... 'woman writes dating column about her own disastrous love life'. Why are movie characters always... writers? Why do they only file a story once in a blue moon? I can tell you now, none of these women would have a job IRL. YOU SIMPLY CANNOT HOLD DOWN A JOB AS A WRITER WITHOUT... WRITING. We are hustling every. damn. day, okay. 

In Love Hard, an LA woman who has made a living off filing one story a week about her bad dates falls for a man named Josh. He lives on the other side of the country, so she decides to surprise him for the holidays. What could go wrong? 

As it turns out... a lot. She discovers that she's been catfished, but finds herself stuck in the small town without her luggage. Forced to stay, she agrees to pass herself off as Josh's girlfriend in order to impress his family. In turn, Josh will help her win over the guy whose photos she originally fell for.

The plot could not possibly be easier to figure out, and it's the worst name for a movie maybe... ever (it's a combination of the two main character's fave Christmas movies... Love Actually and Die Hard. No seriously. I GROANED). But Love Hard is an easy, feel-good watch.

The Real Housewives of the North Pole.

So, you know the extremely popular Real Housewives franchise, right? Well, this is just like that, except it's a fictional tale of 'housewives' in the North Pole, starring IRL Beverly Hills Housewife Kyle Richards and featuring cameos from a lot of other familiar faces.

The Real Housewives of the North Pole tells the story of housewives in a town called North Pole in Vermont. Trish and Diana have won the Best Holiday House decorating competition every year for the past nine years, but days before Christmas, a friendship-ending argument sparks a town-wide feud and draws the attention of a national magazine writer hoping to make a name for herself with her exposé.

BOO.

Trish and Diana's children put their own differences aside to save their mother's friendship and well, it's pretty obvious where things go from there.

It's the guiltiest of pleasures and the campest thing you'll see this year. There's even a scene where one woman throws a frappe into the face of the other. 

I still can't believe this is a real thing, but it is and we truly are lucky to have it.

A Christmas Dance Reunion.

Never mind the Christmas dance... the most important reunion in this on-screen Hallmark card is Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman, a.k.a Chad and Taylor from High School Musical.

This could be the worst movie in the world (it's not, but it's also not... not), and I would still watch it because HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL REUNION. 

Coleman plays attorney Lucy, who returns to her childhood holiday spot, Winterleigh Resort, to celebrate the hotel's final Christmas season. Once there, she reunites with her childhood Christmas Dance partner, Barrett (Bleu).

The resort has very clearly fallen on hard rimes, but Lucy is determined to recreate her beloved Christmas traditions, including the Christmas Dance, which sees her teaming up with Barrett once again.

It's formulaic and predictable, but the chemistry and dance numbers are great - especially the big finale.

Bleu and Coleman's HSM co-star Vanessa Hudgens has already made a name for herself as Netflix's Queen of Christmas content, so basically... Zac Efron Christmas movie when? Here's hoping 2022 comes through with the goods.
