A Weekend Today host quits as salary negotiations stall.

Weekend Today co-host Cameron Williams has quit his post after being unable to reach a satisfactory deal with the Nine Network.

The 52-year-old journalist confirmed his shock exit after contract negotiations for a new role stalled, News Limited reports.

In a statement, the former sports presenter, listed helping create Weekend Today in 2009 with former co-host Leila McKinnon, and hosting both the London and Vancouver Olympics, among his career highlights with the network.

“It’s tough to leave a really challenging and rewarding job, I have no hard feelings toward Nine at all. Far from it,” he said.

“They entrusted me with anchoring some of their most important events.

“You know you’re alive when you are front and centre of something like State of Origin, or an NRL Grand Final.

“The last few years I have hosted the most-watched events on Australian TV and that’s quite an honour.”

Darren Wick, Nine’s Director of News, said the presenter would be sorely missed for his professionalism and as a person.

“Cameron has been one of the most professional journalists that I’ve had the privilege of working with,” Mr Wick said.

Rumours that Williams would joining Fox Sports have been shot down by sources at the pay TV network, News Limited reports.

His manager has confirmed that Williams is now a free agent.

We’ll miss you, Cam.
