It started as a Facebook group by the sister of a teenage boy with leukemia. Victoria McGuire created the page ‘Taylor Swift take KEVIN MCGUIRE TO PROM‘ hoping one of her 200 friends would see it and pass the message on to 22-year-old Swift.
The message got to Taylor and she posted on the page’s wall:
“Kevin, I’m so sorry but I won’t be able to make it to your prom, But I was wondering, the ACM (Academy of Country Music) Awards are coming up. Would you be my date? Love, Taylor.”
The ACM awards were on Saturday. However a day before the event, Kevin’s sister posted:
Hi everyone, I am so sorry to announce this devastating news, but Kevin was admitted to the hospital last night, and is unable to attend the Academy of Country Music Awards with Taylor Swift. As we should all live by the motto “ live for today” a cancer patient feels the impact of these words far to hard. We appreciate everything you have done for us, and we know you are all hurt from this too. Please continue to pray for Kevin and his health, because that is the most important thing. As for Taylor, she is just as depressed as all of us to miss out on this date, and we are so thankful for the opportunity she has given us.
But Taylor’s promised to make it up to him. She tweeted:
Another reason to love Taylor.
