A supermodel has been publicly shamed for NOT eating her chips.

Food-shamers live for moments like this.

I hate peanuts. But that doesn’t stop me from grabbing one when a bowl is next to me and licking all the salt off before throwing the peanut away.

Apparently, my slightly weird food behaviour gives me something in common with a very famous supermodel.

Chrissy Teigen, an American supermodel/member of Taylor Swift’s girl squad/wife of soul singer John Legend, recently found out that the Internet is a pretty judgemental place when it comes to talking about food.

Teigen, 29, was talking to US Cosmopolitan about her eating habits when she accidentally revealed something, um, personal.

“I lick off the nacho cheese seasoning and put the chips back in the bag,” she said. “You still get all the flavour, not all the carbs!”

Oh, Chrissy. Sweet, innocent Chrissy. She didn’t expect that, in an article of approximately 600 words, people would pinpoint the problems with this one line and run with it. But they did.

Daily Mail ran a headline that said “Chrissy Teigen licks the cheese off Doritos when she wants a low-carb snack” while readers took to Twitter to slam Teigen for promoting an eating disorder. Despite the fact that the article contained detailed information about what the model eats, this quote was isolated, blown up and splashed on headlines.

Because she’s a human woman , she took to Twitter to defend herself.

Sharing our food choices can be rife with anxiety and fear. Fear of public shaming, fear of judgement, fear of being misunderstood. So when Teigen chose to share her weird habit with the world (well, a journalist who then published her quotes in context) she invited this shaming into her social media stream. Did she realise the shit storm that would ensue? Probably not. Will she ever share her food habits with us again? It’s unlikely.

Hey, Chrissy. Take it from me. Eat whatever you want, and don’t let the food-shamers get you down. Maybe drop the low carbs comment next time, though. Just a thought.
