Lachlan Gillespie has shared new details about his marriage breakdown with Emma Watkins.

Two weeks on from announcing his split from fellow Wiggle Emma Watkins, Lachlan Gillespie has assured fans their friendship is as strong as ever.

Despite choosing to end their marriage, the Yellow and Purple Wiggle have decided to continue performing together with the popular Australian children’s entertainers.

And from the sounds of Lachy’s latest interview with the Herald Sun, it seems their new arrangement is doing just fine.

“We are the best of friends, we always have been, that’s how it started,” Lachy told the Herald Sun’s Page 13.

“To be able to realise as a couple that we were going different ways and to stay as close as we are is a real testament, I think, to both of us,” he added.

“I love her more now than anything.”

In the new interview, Lachy shared that he moved out of the couple’s home back in February during a trial separation period, six months before they officially announced their split.

Their decision allowed 27-year-old Emma to “concentrate on getting better”, allowing her to focus on treating her acute endometriosis, which she has openly spoke about in the past.

When Emma was recovering from endometriosis surgery back in April, Lachy had already moved out of the couple’s shared Sydney home.

“It’s life,” Lachy said.

“We had such a connection at the start and in a way it has got stronger through the whole separation,” he added.

The Yellow and Purple Wiggle, who were married for two years, announced their separation in a statement in early August.

“We embrace this as a very positive change in our relationship,” Emma wrote on Instagram.

“Our incredible friendship has been strengthened throughout this time and what we have discovered is that, more than ever, first and foremost we love and adore performing as Emma and Lachy in The Wiggles.”

Emma and Lachy dated in secret for two years before publicly announcing they were dating back in March, 2015. They became engaged just two months later.

The couple married in NSW’s southern highlands in April, 2016.
