'I host a fashion podcast, and here are the outfits I'm eyeing off for 6 very specific moments.'

As the co-host of Mamamia's fashion podcast, What Are You Wearing?, it's literally my job to be across what's on the runway and making its way into stores, while keeping tabs on the trends popping up on Instagram and TikTok from our stylish friends overseas.

And as I collect screenshots of Outfits I Want To Wear (I have a folder on my phone, obvs) I can't help but get excited about all the occasions coming up this season – because even if the sun's packed its bags and high-tailed it to Europe, at least we have things like coats and knits to look forward to, right?

Honestly, what's better than getting to the shopping centre and seeing all the boots lined up in place of summer sandals? It feels fresh. New. Get them on me.

Here are a few of the on-trend outfits living rent free in my head right now, and the specific places I'm envisioning wearing them.

The weekend getaway.

Packing for a weekend away is an exact science: you need enough looks to work for cosy afternoons by the fire, long walks and trips to quaint little cafes. But I'm simplifying it with one lazy-girl outfit that'll nail all those situations.

The look I'm envisioning is part Frenchy chic, part Kendall Jenner: think tapered jeans, an oversized sweater and stompy boots thrown effortlessly together. So many picks in-store at Witchery, General Pants and Country Road this season for this look.

Bobbly statement knits like this one from Scotch & Soda I've seen in store will be everywhere this winter. Vests, big pullovers – whatever style you choose, you really can't go wrong.

A winter wedding.

In case you missed it (you didn't), wedding season is coming in hot. Whether your fridge is stacked with invites or you've got one long-awaited party on the way, 2022 is likely the year someone in your life is finally tying the knot.

When it comes to event dressing, I like to head to the shops and try them on in person to really get a gauge for how they work with my figure.

Fluid, silky fabrics are definitely having a moment, as are 70s-style opulent prints. If you're like me and into something with more structure, a coloured suit is the perfect alternative to a dress for a cool-weather wedding.

I'm obsessed with this laid-back vibe and I'm just window-shopping for the right cut – I currently have my eye on this dusty pink Saba suit jacket.

Girls' lunch.

It's been in my calendar since, like, March – but the girls are finally getting together, and I'm gonna need to hit the shops for an outfit. On a recent episode of the podcast, my co-host Deni Todorovič and I discussed the return of the bustier – thanks to Bridgerton, corsets are back, but with a much more modern spin.

Lots of brands have given them a reboot in recent collections, and they look seriously cool layered over loose shirts. I'll be wearing my black bustier from Neon Hart I found when I was in General Pants with low-rise pants, like I saw in this streetstyle snap outside the autumn-winter shows in Paris.

I love this look for lunch with the girls because it's casual enough for daytime drinks, but will also translate into wherever the afternoon takes us. I'll style it up with chunky gold earrings from CUE or Mimco, a mini bag and strappy mules, because I'm all about the Y2K revival (and yes, I lived through it the first time).

Client meetings.

You know those days when you need to look and feel your absolute best? This is one of those days. For back-to-back meetings, I want my outfit to speak before I do.

The look I'm currently obsessed with for work is an oversized blazer (no surprises for anyone who listens to the show or follows me on Instagram) with neat jeans (I always need to try on in person for length) and pointy heels. It's fashionable, polished and gives an opportunity to accessorise however I'm feeling on the day (think shades from Sunglass Hut or OPSM). Editors swear by this combination – I feel like it's timeless, no matter what the season, and conveys a quiet power dressing when you enter a room (or Zoom).

A shopping trip.

Statement outerwear is another look Deni and I have been gasbagging about a lot on the podcast as we get pumped about winter dressing. You'll see lots of bold styles when you're visiting the shops, like printed tweeds, aviator jackets with faux shearling collars and textured coats in eye-catching shades.

I love the way influencer and entrepreneur Vanessa Hong has done a head-to-tonal look here, and it's inspiring me for my next shopping trip in the city. Am now officially looking for a leather wrap coat – DM me if you see one! (Myer and David Jones, I’m looking at you.)

A day of errands.

Finally, it would be remiss of me not to mention athleisure. As much as I love dressing up, I pretty much live in leggings and sweatpants when I'm writing at my desk (see: me right now), darting around doing errands (even more reason to go to my local shopping centre) or recording the podcast.

A cool way to dial up your activewear is to add a trench coat (like this Tia Trench Coat I saw and loved in Saba), especially when the weather turns – I can't stop thinking about this styling trick I saw on a lady in Hamburg heading to Fashion Week. That's one way to make tracksuiting look super fresh!
