Our favourite House Husband is about to become a real-life husband.

He is a doting dad to his adopted kids on the hit Australian TV series House Husbands. Now Gyton Grantley has let everyone know that he’ll be becoming a husband in real life.

Yes, you read that right.

The 35-year-old told Woman’s Day about the story behind his recent engagement to fiancee, Alexandra Ortuso.

Grantley had been dating the 30-year-old primary school teacher for five years prior to popping the question in Italy earlier this year.

Yet Ortuso had no idea that the proposal was coming and was said to have freaked out initially. Grantley told her she could say no if she wanted to but after letting it sink in, Ortuso decided it was what she wanted and said yes.

"I was quite surprised that Alex was surprised, I thought she had been expecting it," Grantley told the magazine.

Although the couple met at a music festival in Queensland in 2010, it wasn't until Grantley landed his House Husbands role and moved to Melbourne that things got really serious.

Funnily, Grantley moved in to the same street as Ortuso, but swears it wasn't intentional. He can't deny that surely it was a twist of fate though.

The fairy tale story goes according to plan from there - they moved in together, and bought a dog and are only missing the white picket fence.

Grantley asked Ortuso's dad for his permission to propose to his daughter. After getting the go ahead, he proposed with a novelty ring.

The couple picked out the real engagement ring, detailed with sapphires and diamonds (for those who want to know), at a later date. They plan to have a wedding next year.

Congratulations to the happy couple.

Where do you think they'll get married?
