Jimmy Kimmel accused of stealing an Oscars joke from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

While hosting tonight’s Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel probably thought he was making an apt and cutting swipe at Hollywood’s impossible beauty standards with a clever quip.

Talking about Andrew Garfield dropping “40 pounds” for his role in Silence, Kimmel called it “an astonishing physical transformation that hasn’t been attempted since every actress in every role ever”.

Listen to Mia Freedman, Laura Brodnik, Brittany Stewart and Monique Bowley debrief on the 2017 Oscars. Post continues below.

It was a valid point… but as viewers were quick to notice, it sounded awfully familiar. Perhaps because Amy Poehler and Tina Fey had made a very similar joke, at a very similar event two years ago, when they were hosting the Golden Globes.

Twitter users were quick to slam Kimmel for “stealing” the joke.

We’re not saying Kimmel’s point wasn’t a good one — nor that he knowingly pinched the reference — and it was great to see him use his platform to highlight the double standards within Hollywood.

We just think the quip sounded a little better when Fey and Poehler made it in 2014. The pair referred to an actor losing 45 pounds as “what we actresses call ‘being in a movie'”.

Listen: Christie Brinkley says she’s empowering women. We’re not so sure.
