Katherine Heigl: "Being a working mum made me angry."

Katherine Heigl explains why slowed down her career to spend more time with her family.

Actress Katherine Heigl began creating her “unique” family in 2009, when her and her husband Josh Kelley adopted their first child, Naliegh, 5, from South Korea.

“My family had its own unique look and I wanted the one I began with my husband to have the same look, in a way” she told Good Housekeeping.

But Katherine quickly found herself caught up between work and family commitments, which she says she hated.

“I would come home angry and frustrated that I’d miss everything with my kid that day,” she recalls. “I didn’t get to wake her up from her nap or do bath time or bedtime. I’d have to sneak into her room and kiss her when she was sleeping, hoping not to wake her up.”

This led Katherine to take a leave of absence from the popular TV series Grey’s Anatomy, before leaving completely.

“I felt like my priorities were messed up. I was putting so much time and energy into just my work, but I was raised [to believe] that family comes first.”

Having more time to spend with her family, Katherine and Josh adopted their second daughter, Adalaide, from Louisiana, America, in 2012.

Katherine and her singer husband Josh married in 2007.
