Katie Holmes: "I want Suri to have a normal childhood."

Katie Holmes opens up about wanting to give her daughter the same childhood she had.

From the minute she was born, the entire world was watching but for Suri Cruise, 8, her upbringing will be as normal as possible according to her actress mum, Katie Holmes, 35.

Katie said when it comes to parenting, “Of course, you try your best,” and that she would like Suri to enjoy, “the same normalcy,” she herself had as a child.

“I try very hard because I am very grateful for my upbringing and my parents and siblings. I try to do what they did for me for my little one,” Katie told The Today Show.

Katie is the youngest of 5 children and was raised in Ohio, before she shot to prominence at the age of 18 when she took on the role of the sweet-faced Joey Potter on Dawson’s Creek.

“The most important thing for me is letting [Suri] know how proud I am, and that her accomplishments mean everything. Whatever I do is whatever. It’s really just about her and that’s what I think is the most important,” Katie went on to say.

Katie moved to New York in 2012, after her separation with fellow actor Tom Cruise and enrolled Suri in a private school in Manhattan.

Despite this very public separation, Katie says she has no regrets and would not give up her fame.

“I never really look back. I always just approach life. I take it one day at a time, I’m really excited about where I am right now. I’ve had some really creative experiences. I’m just excited about the future.”
