Okay. So Louis CK can be pretty… blunt. But people LOVE his stand-up because he has the ability to articulate what so many of us are thinking about the embarrassing parts of life. He’s insightful, intelligent and just isn’t afraid to go there, wherever that may be.
This short clip of one of his stand-up routines has been going viral – but not because everybody loves it. Talking about how hard it is for women in the dating game, Louis makes some insightful points about women, men and violence. But some people think he took it too far. What do you reckon?

Us women don't deserve medals for valour because we go out on dates. The reason we keep saying yes is because "statistically" we aren't going to come to any harm. How many women go out on dates every day all over the world? How many end up dead? If we want to talk about the "truth" then let's be honest, the vast, vast, majority of men will never lay a hand on us. The greatest threat to women isn't men. I can think of endless things that are more harmful to women than men. What about breast cancer? How many more women die in Australia each year because of that?
I know it's a joke and it IS funny- as long as people understand that it ISN'T the reality. He's just doing what comedians do and that is to twist ordinary situations around so we can see them from a different perspective.
I love my partner and I'm very grateful for the way he makes me feel safe and protected. I love my father and my brothers for the same reason. They're all men. My friends have husbands and fathers and brothers. They're all men. Some of my friends have sons. They're men too. I'm not upset because he has commented on domestic violence. I just think it is vulgar and discriminatory to imply that it is a 'male' issue as opposed to an arsehole issue.
Why would men think of that? The vast majority of men have never, and will never, raise a hand against a woman, regardless of how badly she treats him. We aren't going to think of belting the woman we've just asked to dinner.
I can see the humour, but he reality is quite different.
