Madonna responds to "drunken meltdown" rumours.

Madonna, 57, would like everyone to know that no, she’s not in the throes of an alcohol-fuelled meltdown.

Following her emotional, eccentric, and relatively under-rehearsed special free show for fans in Melbourne last week, Madonna has responded to accusations that she was drunk on stage – through her impassioned fans.

She instagrammed a screenshot of one fan’s Facebook post addressing the issue. The fan noted that as a classically trained dancer, Madonna has always taken “meticulous” care of her body, and neither drinks nor smokes.

The suggestion that Madonna could somehow pull off her two-hour show, full of tightly choreographed sequences, drunk, is absurd, wrote the fan.

Furthermore, reads the post, the accusations are misogynistic – an “attempt to undermine a highly accomplished woman’s value”.

“Thanks for supporting me. Too bad people don’t know the art of acting and playing a character,” Madonna, 57, wrote in her accompanying post.

“I could never do any of my shows high or drunk.”

“And yes underlying all of this is sexism and mysongony [sic] which proves that not only do we not get equal pay but we are still treated like heretics if we step out of line and think outside the box! Sexism is alive and kicking but i am #livingforlove.”

Other fans added their support.

“How come people didn’t hate on the hundreds of rock stars that were high and drunk deliberately before a performance??? People are so unfulfilled in their lives that they have to hate on others,” wrote one.

Some even blamed our great nation for the unfavourable coverage of the show.

“And people wonder why it took her 23 years to come back to Australia. The Australian press are a bunch of fucking idiots. Half of them put out reviews for the show on Saturday night BEFORE THE SHOW HAD EVEN FINISHED! Can you time travel now? Australia will go out of its way to tear down any woman who dares to have a dream and achieve it, any woman who lives outside the small boxes that they live in. Bunch of uneducated, miserable assholes.”

So there.
