Tonight's MKR is pitched as the 'Grand Final come early'.

A grand final is supposed to be about the best of the best playing off against each other. But according to fans, not on My Kitchen Rules.

Tonight’s episode has been pitched as a big one. It will see “The Italians”, Martino and Luciano, face Melbourne lawyers Gianni and Zana in “the grand final has come early”.

But fans are asking, should that really be the case?

So far there has only been one round of instant restaurants and one round of challenges.

While both teams fell short during the challenges, there can be no doubt their instant restaurant scores had them well placed on the leader board. Gianni and Zana scored an incredible 97/100 for their first instant restaurant and Martino and Luciano received 95/120.

Impressive when you consider some teams have been hovering around 60 points.

But now, before they have the chance to prove their nutritional nous in further challenges, or back up their original scores in the next round on instant restaurants, one of the power teams is set to be eliminated.

And some fans are none too pleased.

“This is crap… I am going to boycott unless both go through,” wrote one fan on the show’s Facebook page. “They are the best cooks in this show, and if either were to go, the show will be the biggest loser for it!”

This fan recognised the teams’ failings in the challenge round, but says, “It’s a joke that they are cooking off in the elimination when clearly they are the two teams that have the most talent.”

The comment received more than 250 likes.

Other viewers echoed the sentiment saying they “totally agreed” that the decision to pit these particular teams against each other in a sudden death elimination was “frustrating”.

“I don’t think these two teams are necessarily the BEST two teams worthy of being in the grand final as insinuated by the caption,” wrote one fan. “We have only seen them cooked [sic] twice. The first time in their own comfort zones and the second time complete disaster outdoor. There are many more dark horses in the stable.”

Competition is heating up but it’s important to remember, as a season of MKR would make Ben Hur seem like a short film, there is still a long way to go.

Which “dark horses” would you like to see make it through to the finals.
