A year on from her split with Nathan Lyon, here's what Mel Waring wants you to know.

It’s been a year since the photos of cricketer Nathan Lyon emerged. The father of two in the passenger seat of a BMW, leaning over and kissing the blonde woman behind the wheel. A woman who wasn’t his partner of 10 years and mother of his two daughters, Mel Waring.

Though utterly “devastated” at the subsequent collapse of her marriage, Mel displayed a show of strength via Instagram this week, sharing a picture of herself with her girls, Harper and Milla.

“My little tribe,” she wrote. “A year on and we might not be the family we once were, but the girl gang is stronger then ever and can’t wait for our new adventure next year!”

And other members of the Australian cricketing family were right there to support her.

“Squad on point!” wrote Rachel Khawaja, the marketing and even manager wife of batsman, Usman. “So much love for you beautiful girls.”

“So good!” added Candice Warner.

Sammy Nevill, the wife of NSW captain and former test wicketkeeper Peter, also rallied around Mel, commenting the lyrics from Beyonce’s female empowerment anthem, Girls: “Who run the world?”

Reports in the Daily Mail at the time claimed that there was nothing illicit about Nathan’s relationship with the woman in the photographs, real estate agent Emma McCarthy.

“It is 100 per cent not an affair,” and unnamed source reportedly told the tabloid. “It’s an open and committed relationship and everyone is aware of it, but it is being kept private for the sake of Nathan’s kids.”

The response by Mel suggested otherwise.

“He was my forever, he was my whole world,” she wrote on her blog, Life of Lyons, in March this year. “Until the very end I was 100 per cent devoted to our life and I loved every part of him and our world.

“This was like a bomb, it went off from behind. I had to deal with in a very public, humiliating and confronting way. A part of me died.”

Nathan has remained quiet on the topic ever since it broke on December 14 last year. But it's believed he and Emma are still together.

The Perth woman has shared several images of him to Instagram, one as recently as November 24, which captured them together at a wedding.

"Last night with my ❤️," she wrote.

For Mel, it's been a year of adjusting to life as a single mother and overcoming pain that was "real and deep".

Back in March she promised herself that would "continue to smile though. I will continue to laugh and make every moment mean something. I will continue to fake it because eventually it won’t be fake and I will make it out the other side stronger."

It seems, 12 months on, she might be there.
