Paris Jackson's Melbourne Cup dress was not the one she was 'meant' to wear.

The frock Paris Jackson wore to the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday afternoon reportedly wasn’t the one event sponsor Myer had chosen for her.

According to Melissa Singer of Fairfax Media, the 19-year-old daughter of late music legend, Michael Jackson, was lined up to wear a red creation by Australian fashion icon Alex Perry, but “wasn’t a fan” of the design.

Instead Jackson arrived at the event in a rust-coloured, sleeved dress by Morrison – another Aussie, Myer-stocked label – which she paired with a crystal headpiece by Ann Shoebridge and her own heeled desert boots.

According to the outlet, even the footwear was a compromise, as handlers drew the line at Jackson’s request to wear cowboy boots.

The usually private actress/model is attending the event as a VIP guest of the department store and Victoria Racing Club.

As a major sponsor of the annual racing carnival, Myer wields significant influence over the fashion 'choices' of special guests and VIPs.

As was widely reported in 2015, Jessica Mauboy was booked to sing the national anthem but withdrew at the last minute over a branding dispute: The Secret Daughter star was reportedly wearing a pair shoes from a "banned" label.

“I thought I looked pretty deadly,” Mauboy, later told 2GB radio host Alan Jones. “[The] dress was perfectly in the right form, the fascinator was amazing, the shoes were a problem."

The same year a photograph of Hollywood actress Hilary Swank was nixed because she was wearing a frock by Christopher Esber; a David Jones-stocked brand. Snaps of model Ashley Hart reportedly met the same fate due to her Dolce & Gabbana getup.

Thankfully Jackson avoided a similar conflict with her final choice on Tuesday.

A representative for the actress has denied that she'd declined to wear what was reportedly a custom-made dress by Alex Perry.

"This isn't true. Paris couldn't have refused to wear a custom-made Alex Perry design to the Melbourne Cup, as no such dress was ever made. Paris did wear a piece from Alex's collection on the cover of Stellar Magazine," the rep said in a statement given to Daily Mail Australia.

Mamamia has contacted Myer for comment.

After spending time in the Myer marquee, Jackson was due to watch the Melbourne Cup race with VRC chairwoman Amanda Elliott.
