Princess Charlotte looks just like the Queen in the latest royal portrait.

In an official photograph released by Buckingham Palace to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday, the youngest royal, Princess Charlotte, is pictured on her great-grandmother’s lap. And the resemblance is uncanny.

In the photo, Queen Elizabeth II is surrounded by her five great-grandchildren and two youngest grandchildren, in the Green Drawing Room of Windsor Castle. The picture is one of three taken at the Castle by esteemed celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.

Charlotte, who is nearly one, is positioned at the centre, held affectionately by the Queen. And with their matching cardigans, blue eyes and smiles, it’s not hard to see why the Queen is completely enamoured with the newest member of the royal family.

In a rare solo interview in March, Princess Kate said the Queen was “really thrilled” to welcome Charlotte. “The Queen was really thrilled that it was a little girl, and I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington Palace she was one of our first visitors,” said Kate.

Kate also rejects rumours that the Queen is overbearing with her great-grandchildren. “She’s been very generous in not being forceful at all and in any of her views, but I feel she’s been there, a gentle guidance really for me,” she said in the interview.

In the latest royal portrait, Prince George stands between fellow great-grandchildren 5-year-old Savannah and 4-year-old Isla. The girls are the daughters of Peter Phillips, whose mother is the Queen's only daughter, Princess Anne.

The gorgeous toddler to the left of the Queen, who appears to be holding her handbag, is 2-year-old Mia Tindall, whose mother Zara is Peter's sister.

The two older children on the far left are the Queen's youngest grandchildren, 12-year old Louise and 8-year-old James - the children of Prince Edward, the Queen's youngest son.

A number of photos have been released in the last few days, including an adorable picture of Prince George with his father, grandfather, and great-grandmother.
