What the Queen really thinks of Duchess Kate.

Everyone seems to be talking about the inside details of Queen Elizabeth’s life at the moment.

That is because author Ingrid Seward has written a biography detailing the Queen’s inner thoughts, in The Queen’s Speech: An Intimate Portrait of the Queen in Her Own Words.

The attention has turned to her thoughts on the Duchess of Cambridge. Or more what the Queen really thinks of her commoner granddaughter-in-law.

Now, to fill you in. There have been rumours swirling for years that the Queen isn’t a big fan of Kate. The latest hear-say was that the Queen wanted Kate to get off her bum and attend more royal events (because the Queen is getting tired).

There was also concern, allegedly from the Queen, that Kate is being too common (which is why she's so popular with us) and who could forget the "your skirt is too short" lecture. Read more about that one here.

Another gossipy gossip is that the Queen isn't a fan of how involved Kate's parents are.

After seeing the tense relationship between Princess Diana and the Queen, many have worried that the same might happen between the Queen and Kate.

But not so.

According to a book extract published by the Daily Mail the Queen is Kate's biggest fan (not ahead of me, of course).

"She thoroughly approves of the Duchess of Cambridge and doesn’t give a fig for her being from an ordinary, middle-class background.

The Middletons and the Windsors might seem at first glance to be worlds apart. Kate certainly shows no sign of adopting the horsey, doggy lifestyle beloved of her grandmother-in-law.

But the Queen admires how well Kate has embraced royal life, combining it cheerfully with duty and motherhood. Nothing could matter more.

She has high hopes that the Cambridges’ marriage will be as successful as her own."

So, we are all good then?

How couldn't they be besties? Before Kate, the royals weren't on anyone's favourite lists. Okay, maybe Will and Harry, but that was only because we wanted to marry them.

Since Kate has come on the scene, royalists are popping up everywhere. Even our Editor has crossed over (read about that here). [Editor's note: This is a spurious allegation and I deny it wholeheartedly.]

Back in 2013, just after the birth of Prince George, The Express UK wrote that three quarters of the UK wanted Prince George to become King, while just in 2011, only a quarter wanted the monarchy to be around by the time he could ascend the throne. They also named Kate, Will and Harry as the most popular royals. There was also a big spike in royal support when Kate said "I do" to William.

Seward also talked about the relationship between the Queen and Princess Diana. Interviewed by PEOPLE, Seward said that while the Queen knew Diana before she was engaged to her son, Prince Charles, calling her family, when things went sour in the marriage the Queen didn't know how to handle Diana.

"The Queen was desperate to help Diana but she just didn't know how. The Queen had never had to confront that type of conundrum. You just didn't go into the Page's vestibule and break down and say, 'Oh, mama' – because that's what Diana used to call the Queen – 'Everybody hates me! Your son hates me!'

She just broke down in front of the Queen and no one had ever done that before in her life. She just didn't know how to handle this emotional young woman. She was really just a child."

So perhaps it is Kate's confident, always-smiling approach that the Queen favours.

When the Queen gave birth to Andrew, she would pencil in "baby time" to her busy schedule to ensure she spent time with him.
