There's a recurring theme in all of Taylor Swift's albums and we have no idea how we missed it.

An utter genius (and obviously a bigger T-Swift fan than you or I) has discovered a single detail that links all of Taylor Swift’s albums.

It’s the dress, people. It’s all in the dress.

Twitter user WakeUpMyDear has published this gem to social media and has us wondering – what have we been doing with our lives and why haven’t we seen this before?

2006: That little black dress
2008: My best dress, fearless – Pick up a white dress
2010: The girl in the dress cried the whole way home
2012: Spinning like a girl in a brand new dress
2014: Standing in a nice dress
2017: DRESS#SomeThingsNeverChange @taylorswift13 ❤️

Not only is there a shout-out to a particular dress in each of Swift’s albums, but the lyrics around the dress says a lot about a particular moment in the now 28-year-old’s life, as Hello Giggles points out.

There is Swift in her late teens, with the album Taylor Swift released in 2006. Like any 18-year-old, her wardrobe revolved around one thing – a LBD.

“When you think happiness / I hope you think ‘that little black dress.'”

There is Swift falling in love in her 2008 album Fearless. She was happy, naive and not afraid to ruin her best dress in the name of love.

“And I don’t know why but with you I’d dance / In a storm in my best dress / Fearless.”

There is her heartbreak in 2010, with the album Speak Now.

“The girl in the dress cried the whole way home / I shoulda’ known.”

Things are more optimistic in 2012 with Swift’s album Red, perhaps due to the massive success of Speak Now and it’s namesake tour.

“Spinning like a girl in a brand new dress / We had this big wide city all to ourselves.”

There is this from the 2012 album 1989 in the song Wildest Dreams.

“Say you’ll remember me / Standing in a nice dress / Staring at the sunset, babe.”

And finally, we reach the current, edgy Reputation stage, in which Swift is forceful and dangerous and all innocence is lost.

“Carve your name into my bedpost / ‘Cause I don’t want you like a best friend / Only bought this dress so you could take it off.”
