Two months ago, S Club 7 announced their reunion. Yesterday, Paul Cattermole tragically died.

Paul Cattermole, an original member of the British pop group S Club 7, died on Friday at his home in the UK, the band has announced. He was 46.

"We are truly devastated by the passing of our brother Paul," the band said in a statement on social media.

"There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel. We were so lucky to have had him in our lives and are thankful for the amazing memories we have.

"He will be so deeply missed by each and every one of us. We ask that you respect the privacy of his family and of the band at this time."

Only a few months earlier in February, S Club 7 announced they would be reuniting for their 25th anniversary with a tour throughout the UK and Ireland.

All seven members appeared on BBC's One Show to talk about performing together again.

"I think where we are in the world right now, we just want to get up there and bring some joy and positivity," Rachel Stevens said at the press conference.

"I can speak for myself - my kids listen to our music - I think our lyrics and everything are so joyful and so positive and to bring that back to kids today and that nostalgia is such a special thing to be a part of."

Almost 25 years have passed since Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller formed and launched S Club 7 in 1998.

In a unique twist compared with other pop bands of the same era, the group had their own kids' TV show on the BBC called Miami 7.

Each of the 13 original episodes, about a band trying to make it big in the States while navigating various teenage dramas, featured the group playing themselves and singing hits from their first album.

The show was renamed S Club 7 in Miami and aired for another three years on Fox Family in the US from 1999 to 2002.

Paul Cattermole was the first to leave the band in 2002 which prompted a name change to S Club, prior to them announcing they were parting ways in 2003.

In those first four years together, S Club 7 clocked up some impressive stats.

They had number one hits around the world and a top 10 in the US with 'Never Had a Dream Come True'. They recorded four studio albums, released 11 singles and sold an impressive 10 million albums worldwide.

They had all previously reunited for a charity show in 2014 and a tour in 2015 and Jo, Paul and Bradley continued on as S Club 3 or S Club Allstars for a further couple of years.

Here's where the band has been doing since.

Paul Cattermole.

Cattermole was the first band member to leave S Club 7. He claimed he doesn't regret leaving the group, and after, briefly played in a "nu-metal" band called Skua.

In an interview with The Guardian, Cattermole said that his five-year relationship with fellow band member Hannah Spearritt "did not happen organically".

When asked by a journalist if he felt forced into the relationship, he responded: "Yeah, but like I say. It didn't feel like that because I had totally grown into the idea, quite quickly. I thought she was great."

Whilst his relationship may have been forced, the band's friendship never was, with Cattermole adding: "We were closer than many pop groups — people that used to work with us said: 'Wow, you guys actually speak, you actually stay in the same room.' Most of them don't."

Cattermole and Spearritt got back together in June 2015, but broke up again in November of the same year.

Before reuniting with S Club 7, Cattermole became a tarot card reader and launched a YouTube channel where he gave readings.

On April 7, 2023, a statement was released announcing Cattermole's death. He was 46.

A statement from his family said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son and brother Paul Cattermole.

"While the cause of death is currently unknown, Dorset Police has confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances.

"Paul’s family, friends and fellow members of S Club request privacy at this time."

The band also posted a tribute to their "brother".

Tina Barrett.

Barrett, now 46, released a solo single in 2012 called 'Fire' and another in 2020 called 'Mwah Mwah'.

She has kept a relatively low profile since S Club 7, however, returned for S Club 3 in 2017.

Personally, Barrett is the mother of son, Roman, aged six.

Jon Lee.

Lee, now 40, pursued theatre, appearing in various West End productions, including Les Miserables, Jersey Boys, Love Shack and Aladdin.

He publicly came out as gay in 2010 in an interview with Gay Times magazine.

"If someone had said 'Are you gay?' I would have said yes, but no one ever did. I've never felt the need to leap out of the closet singing and dancing about it. I've always known I was gay, from a very young age," Lee said.

The band member said he came out to family and friends at a young age, and that "it's never needed to be a huge change that I've had to tell everyone about".

Jon recorded a solo album called Fallen Angel in 2013.

Hannah Spearritt.

After the band's split, Spearritt, now 42, moved into acting, landing a role alongside Frankie Muniz in Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London in 2003.

She had a recurring role in the drama Primeval from 2007 to 2011 and was on EastEnders in 2017 and 2018, where she played Kandice Taylor.

Spearritt is also a parent, giving birth to her first daughter in 2018, and her second in 2020.

Just weeks before Christmas 2022, the singer and her family were left homeless.

She and her partner, Adam Thomas, along with their two daughters, found themselves living in an "office space" after their landlord asked them to leave their rental with only two days' notice.

"The kids' beds were there and we had the crayons out," Spearritt told The Sun in January. "It was stressful."

The eviction forced the singer and her partner to call in favours with loved ones, after they were asked to pay $10,000 AUD up-front to secure a short-term rental, with one friend offering up an office space.

"We just used it as our living room,” Spearritt explained, adding that they made it as fun as they could for daughters Taya, four, and Tora, three.

“We could work in there and the kids played," she told the publication. “It was extra space... The climbing frame was up; it was fun for them."

While the situation has been critical, Spearritt and her partner have been doing the best they can.

“You deal with it, don’t you? Especially with the kids," she added. “Whatever doesn’t break you, as they say…”

Bradley McIntosh.

Following S Club 7's split, McIntosh tried to make a new group, Upper Street, with members from other bands like Steps, New Kids on the Block and 911.

Their song, 'The One', barely made it into the UK Top 40.

After that, McIntosh, now 41, appeared on the reality show Celebrity Sport Relief, where he lost a boxing match against Jack Osbourne

In 2017, McIntosh had some commercial success. He wrote a song for a band called Bars and Melody that went number one in Poland.

He also has a young son named Kairo.

McIntosh and Barrett have remained close throughout the years. The pair have done various gigs together, posting regularly on social media.

Rachel Stevens

Stevens was and continues to be, the coolest band member. And yeah, before you ask. She's still doing her thing.

Following the band's split, 44-year-old Stevens was offered a solo record deal reportedly worth six figures and released two albums.

Sadly, she hasn't released any music since 2005, but she's been doing other things, like being a guest judge on X Factor New Zealand, a real judge on X Factor Ireland, appearing in the movie Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, and being named FHM's Sexiest Woman of all Time.

She found love with actor Alex Bourne and they married in 2009. They had their first daughter, Amelie, a year later, and three years later welcomed a second daughter named Minnie.

In perhaps the least surprising turn of events possible, Stevens is now a pretty successful Instagram influencer.

Jo O'Meara

In September 2005, O'Meara's debut single What Hurts the Most was number 13 on the UK Charts.

Since then, she's been around the reality TV block (although not actually on The Block), starting with BBC reality show Just The Two Of Us and graduating to Celebrity Big Brother in 2007.

In 2008, she gave birth to a son named Lenny.

In 2021, O'Meara who is now 43, also released a new album.

Simon Fuller

And where is Simon Fuller, the band's creator and manager, now? Well, it turns out he's a hugely successful music producer who is not at all affected by or interested in the goings-on of S Club 7.

In fact, in 2017 he joined with the four original members of ABBA to plan the movie Mamma Mia 2, so he's doing by far the best out of everyone.

Oh, and his net worth is US$600 million.

Good onya, Simon.
