Sarah Michelle Gellar just shared the ultimate Buffy throwback and we're a mess.

As the world celebrates the 20-year anniversary of iconic TV show Buffy The Vampire Slayer‘s first episode airing, the woman behind the globally loved leading character, Sarah Michelle Gellar, has called the seven-year acting gig “the greatest privilege”.

Sharing a throwback post with her 1.4 million Instagram followers on Friday, Gellar posted an on-set image of herself alongside a lengthy caption of her memories from the seven seasons on the show.

“That first season, we liked to think of ourselves as the little show that could. While we knew the potential, I don’t think any of us saw the lasting impact our show would have,” Gellar, now 39 and a mum of two, wrote.

“As an actor, you wish for that one role where you can leave your mark and forever be remembered, with Buffy I got so much more. She’s a feminist challenge to gender hierarchy. Buffy may have been the Chosen One, but I was the lucky one.”

The actress then gave a shout-out to the show’s creator Joss Whedon, the crew, and her many co-stars, including David Boreanaz, who starred as Angel, James Marsters, who played Spike, and Alyson Hannigan, who played Willow.

Finally, Gellar ended the perfect post by thanking the loving and devoted fans of the show.

“And lastly, but most importantly thank you to all of you, the fans. We made this show for you, and your unwavering support has kept this show going long past our seven years. You are everything. And always remember…’if the apocalypse comes, beep me.'”

We’re not crying and downloading all seven seasons right now, you are.
