When Tina Arena sang I Need Your Body at the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 24 years ago, it became a huge hit. Fans have been asking for it ever since, but you might be surprised to hear that Tina has spent decades avoiding the song.
Tina, 46, told The Daily Telegraph, “I spent a lot of years cringing at that I Need Your Body. Actually, it was the video that made me cringe, not the song. I was an awkward teenager but I wasn’t the first and I won’t be the last. The great thing about time is it enables you to heal from all that. Why was I so stupidly hard on myself? I was just young.”
In the video clip, Tina tried to amp up her sex appeal to stop herself from being type-casted as the child star from Young Talent Time. But despite Tina feeling uncomfortable about the portrayal of the song., it’s still ranks number 3 out of all of her hits in Australia.
Thanks to her manager Grant Gillies, Tina has agreed to include the song in her line up for her next tour. “I’ve always said the song will see the light of day when it’s meant to. And it’s time. I remembered the words immediately, which floored me,” Tina said.
