Ariel Winter's perfect response to her estranged mum telling her to "dress properly".

Modern Family star Ariel Winter has been emancipated from her mother since 2015.

So when Chrystal Workman gave an interview to In Touch magazine questioning the 19-year-old’s recent fashion choices, everyone was a little shocked.

But no one was as shocked – or confused – as Ariel herself.

The TV star has been the subject of much public-scrutiny in recent weeks for her unashamed love of her body and clothes that show off her curves.

But her mum thinks it’s “sad” that Ariel “feels the need to expose herself when it’s not necessary”.

“She needs to grow up. I would tell her to dress properly, be the beautiful person she is,” she continued, even though we’re pretty sure Ariel most definitely never asked for her opinion.

“Ariel is smart, beautiful and talented. She is a legitimate actress. She does not need to do this. She is beautiful with her clothes on.”

Almost as quickly as the words were printed, Ariel had a response for her mum, telling her 604,000 followers that she was "toxic".

"What's sad is that you lie consistently," Ariel wrote on Twitter.
