The man was tackled to the ground by Grimmie's brother, who was at the event with her. Grimmie's The Voice mentor Adam Levigne made a generous offer to Grimmie's family later in the week, while Selena Gomez, a close friend of Grimmie's was forced to pull out of an appearance due to grief.

Monday

Our public holiday quickly turned to horror as Australia woke to the news the US had just experienced its worst mass shooting in history overnight. Forty-nine people were killed in the shooting after a gunman entered a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida

A harrowing story emerged from the incident: a mother shared texts from her son, who messaged her during the shooting. Sadly, her son was confirmed as one of the dead a few days later.

Rebecca Sparrow wrote a thought-provoking article, thanking John Howard for changing Australia's gun laws.
