'It hardly counts as cooking.' 22 women share the crowd-pleasing Christmas dishes they make every year.

If you were to mention the words 'Christmas Lunch' to a room full of people, we guarantee you something slightly different pops into each and every one of their heads.

It might be a juicy turkey, pigs in blankets, a bucket of prawns, a classic Christmas pudding or even just a box of Celebrations

And that's because Christmas means something different to everyone. Each family has their own brand of Christmas grub – and so, because we're nosy, we reached out to our wider Mamamia community to ask what crowd-pleasing Christmas meals they make for their families year after year... after year. Whether it's a classic ham or a new Christmas tree-themed snack, we wanted to hear about it.

"My sister makes a pull-apart Christmas tree and it is literally little bread rolls filled with cheese and covered in butter, garlic and parmesan. It’s so delicious and looks amazing." - Kali.

Chocolate roulade.

"I make chocolate roulade every year as I’m not a pudding eater and this is what I have along with others around our table for dessert. It’s so delicious and filled with fresh Tassie raspberries, even better for breakfast on Boxing Day morning!"

Duck fat roast potatoes.

"Between Friendmas and Christmas Day, I usually roast up around 60 potatoes each festive season, earning me the nickname 'Potatie'. What makes them special is the fact I fry them in duck fat – an expensive but INCREDIBLE way to eat your potatoes. It tastes like a salty, oily bite of heaven." - Katie.

Pavlova.

"I've become accustomed to making pavlovas and I really enjoy it. Last year, I put in a lot of effort for my pavlova donut and I am slowly becoming the 'PAV QUEEN'. You can be one too with a piping bag for cream, fresh seasonal berries and a beautiful serving plate." - Pip.

Pumpkin pie.

"Making a pumpkin pie is only something I tried for the first time as an adult but I became obsessed with perfecting it! I make these myself. You would never believe that the secret ingredient is... pumpkin." - Emmeline.

Pavlova and brownies.

"To be fair, I didn't make either this pavlova or the brownies but I didn't realise how GOOD they could be together. The lightness and fruitiness of the pavlova mixed with the warmth and decadence of the brownie is so bloody unreal. If it wasn't a Christmas tradition before, it definitely is now." - Shannen.

"My friend rocked up to Friendmas with this 'Charcuterie Chalet' last year and we loved it. Take a few breadsticks, some brie, prosciutto and combine it with a little bit of determination and you can have one for yourself too" - Kate.

Salmon gravlax.

"We make this salmon gravlax every year. It gets cured in beetroot and gin. It is very gently flavoured and feels very sophisticated to serve at the dinner table each year. However, it's really not that hard. And don't worry – the beetroot flavour isn't too intense!" - Casey.

Nigella Lawson's chocolate pavlova.

"We love to make Nigella Lawson's chocolate pavlova every Christmas! But we do it in a wreath shape because it is easier to slice up, and it looks more festive!" - Colina.

"I make a different one each year. Lately, I do homemade coconut custard to cater for lactose-intolerant people. However, for Christmas Day, I am thinking of mixing it with some custard and vanilla almond milk. I like to get a bit creative with it." - Natasha.

Jamie Oliver’s turkey and leek pie.

"I like to make Jamie Oliver’s turkey and leek pie! It’s not a Christmas Day thing, we make it on Boxing Day to use up all the leftover Turkey. I do it every year and I think I look forward to this just as much as the actual Christmas lunch!" - Vanessa.

"We make one every single year! Pavlova is pretty straightforward, but this is a recipe I follow if I need a refresher." - Gina.

Couscous salad.

"This is my Christmas couscous salad – any time I make it someone always asks for the recipe! It originally came from the Stay At Home Mum blog but I have adapted slightly." - Lana.

Pineapple and marmalade glazed ham.

"This ham is always a big winner on Christmas Day! Every ham is personal but you can find a pretty solid recipe here." - Leila.

Brussels sprouts.

"We always have Brussels sprouts for the poms in the family and they are ignored by everyone else. Last year, my son made them with bacon and hazelnuts. I didn’t even get to take a look at them – the kids ate them all." - Yaël.

Honey biscuits.

"We make and decorate honey biscuits with my 94-year-old Nanna every year. We used to do it with her at home when I was young and now we’ve continued the tradition at my place, with my own children, siblings, niece, and nephew. We make over 500+ biscuits usually and gift them to friends and family." - Tamara.

Grandies.

"They are marshmallows, dipped in melted chocolate and topped with a Jaffa (I use raspberries because the kids might choke on Jaffas) and a spearmint leaf lolly (but couldn’t find any in Woolies so we used green M&Ms). My grandson will take them to Kindy to share with his friends on the last day of class. They are always a huge hit!" - Libby.

Pasta salad.

"My super basic and easy pasta salad! Bring two cups of pasta to a boil and let it cool. Chop up two cucumbers, a handful of cherry tomatoes, some Spanish onion, feta and fresh parsley. Dress with a dash of olive oil, white balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper." - Jess.

Prawn and mango salad.

"It hardly counts as cooking but I take a prawn and mango salad at every opportunity around Chrissy and new year!
Butter lettuce, prawn, avocado, mango, fresh coriander and we love a spicy Asian dressing but there are so many dressings that work with it." - Claire.

Flat pavlova.

"My niece calls it flat pavlova! I’d be in serious trouble if I didn’t make this every Christmas." - Marina.

"We make Nigella Lawson's turkey, which swims in a lovely brine spa in the fridge beforehand. The potatoes are pre-boiled, smashed and then baked in goose fat." - Lynda.

Baked parmesan-crusted salmon with lemon cream sauce.

"Baked Parmesan Crusted Salmon is something a little bit different from the usual roast options and it’s delicious! Also, maple glazed ham and mini pavlovas are definitely a favourite in my family. Mainly because they are pretty easy and can be prepped ahead." - Steph.
