A woman who was left suffering depression and unable to work after a “nightmare” haircut has been awarded more than $14,000 compensation.
Donna Smith went into the Manchester salon with long hair and high hopes for a light brown, layered look. Seven hours later she walked out with a cropped cut, matted and bleached so severely that she had to shave it off and wear a wig.
“It is every woman’s worst nightmare,” Donna said.

The British air hostess said the ordeal left her depressed, unable to work and taking anti-depressants to cope, The Sun reports. The 37-year-old told The Sun that she had chosen to treat herself with a $243 (£150) haircut and colour, but it all went wrong about the dye was applied.
“I sat flicking through magazines for what seemed like a long time – it was actually 90 minutes – before she took me to the sink at the back of the salon to have it washed off,” Donna recalled.
“I heard her with a pair of scissors and I remember thinking ‘what’s she doing?’ It turned out she was cutting away my melted hair.
“The bottom of my neck started to sting a little and that’s when I started thinking ‘Something isn’t right here.”
Despite the hair stylist’s assurances that she would fix it as she tried to keep the mirror from her, Donna was left with a haircut that made her exclaim, “Where the f*** had my hair gone?”

If that's enough to equate the worst six months of your life and not working you need s reality check. Actual bad things happen to people ( see young adult cancer article ) this is not pleasant and you do deserve some compensation but come on - it has a funny side and you will always have a story to tell.
I totally understand her reaction and she deserves compensation for what she had to go through.
I had a panic attack when I left a salon.Chopped my hair off and came out close to black hair with streaks that turned green.I am a reck when I go to a salon now.I am trying to grow my hair back and there's still green patches. I just want the true. If you can't cut it the way I would like say so.And show me your version of brown and I will show you mine. Then we can go from there.👍
I've learnt how to cut my own hair by pulling my hair into a ponytail on top of my head close to the crown. I trim off the ends with proper hairdressing scissors I purchased. This doesn't shorten the hair it just creates long layers. To shorten the length of my hair I pull my hair into a ponytail at the back then slide the hair tie down to the length I want then carefully trim the ends off. This works for me. I'm happy with the results. No one else knows I cut my own hair and I sometimes get compliments. Though I'm limited in what styles I can do I feel empowered. I started cutting my own hair because I didn't like paying for a bad haircut or feeling disrespected or lied to. None of my visits to the hairdressers has been this traumatic though. She had every right to feel how she felt. It could have seriously affected her career as an air hostess. It takes a long time to grow your hair back too. It's not just about that tho. It hurts when people don't do the right thing by us. We want to be able to trust people.
