The tragic story of what happened to the dad from 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids'.

Rick Moranis was the goofy flailing dad on the hit 90s movieHoney, I Shrunk the Kids. We grew up with Moranis on our screens. We loved him as the bumbling scientist who shrunk his kids, and probably thought he was the funniest family man on the planet.

The Canadian actor, comedian and writer also starred in Ghostbusters and The Flintstones. But then he just disappeared. We haven’t seen or heard anything from – or about – Moranis for about ten years.

So how did the talented actor go from movie star, to completely falling off the radar?

Sadly, the 62-year-old lost his wife to breast cancer in 1991. This left him to raise their two children on his own.

"I pulled out of making movies in about '96 or '97. I'm a single parent, and I just found that it was too difficult to manage raising my kids and doing traveling involved in making movies," Moranis told USAToday.

"The decision in my case to become a stay-at-home-dad, which people do all the time, I guess wouldn’t have meant as much to people if I had had a very simple kind of make-a-living existence and decided I needed to spend more time at home," Moranis told UPROXX.

The actor took a bit of a break from acting, which he says turned in to a long break.

"Then I found I really didn't miss it [the acting]," he told USAToday.

Recently Moranis has been recording an album, which was just released on ArtistShare. His album is called The Agoraphobic Cowboy.

The single father admitted to the American publication that he's not sure whether he'll go back to acting. He says he's been, "Doing a lot of writing and a lot of parenting, and now I'm doing this," in regards to his new music project.

Rick Moranis just released an album.

The modest man told UPROXX that he never walked away from his career. "I applied all of my creativity to my home life, to my kids, to my family. I was the same person. I didn’t change. I just shifted my focus," he said.

Now Moranis is releasing an album and taking things easy. While he was a favourite dad on screen in the 90s, he continues to fulfill his role as an amazing father off screen today.
