Human Goddess Cate Blanchett says she's had "many" lesbian relationships.

She’s playing a woman who falls in love with a younger woman in her new film.

Human goddess Cate Blanchett casually told an interviewer that she’s had “many” lesbian relationships in her time.

The Oscar-winner, 45, was being interviewed by Variety magazine about her new film Carol, in which she plays a bisexual.

The film is based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Price of Salt (so controversial in the 1950s that Highsmith used a nom de plume) and also stars Rooney Mara, as Blanchett’s paramour.

The interviewer asked Blanchett if it was her first turn as a lesbian, and she responded, “On film – or in real life?”

When pressed about whether she’s had relationships with women, she merely responded, “Yes, many times.”

Blanchett said she has never felt the need to categorise herself, and she imagined the character of Carol wouldn’t have either.

“Her sexuality isn’t politicised,” she told Variety. “I think there are a lot of people that exist like that who don’t feel the need to shout things from the rafters.”

Blanchett also says she’d rather not have to talk about gender parity in Hollywood – but that she has to.

She-who-can-do-no-wrong says the dominance of male-led films at the box office is bad for audiences as well as bad for business.

“It’s not serving the audience,” she told Variety. “People want to see good films. We should have equal access to the multiplexes.”
