Everything Jada Pinkett Smith has said about her struggle with alopecia.

Whether or not you tuned into the 2022 Oscars, chances are you've heard or seen all about the altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock. It's everywhere right now.

After taking the stage to present an award, Rock made an insensitive joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's alopecia, saying "Jada, love you, G.I. Jane 2, can't wait to see it."

Pinkett Smith rolled her eyes at the joke, visibly upset.

We then watched as Smith jumped up from his front-row seat, walked on stage and slapped Rock across the face, before shouting "Keep my wife's name out of your f**king mouth."

It was uncomfortable for many reasons, but none more so than the emotion it held behind Jada Pinkett Smith's struggle with severe hair loss - something she's always been an open book about.

During an episode of Red Table Talk in 2018, Pinkett Smith detailed the raw and very emotional impact of losing her hair, before sharing her experience with trialling steroid injections to manage her condition.

"It was terrifying when it first started. I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, 'Oh my god, am I going bald?'" she said on Red Table Talk.

In a post on Instagram, the star shared another update on her condition.

She gave her followers an up-close look at the patches of hair loss on her scalp that have come with alopecia - an autoimmune disease that occurs when the immune system attacks hair follicles. It's a treatable condition, but not curable.

"Now at this point, I can only laugh," she said. "Y'all know I've been struggling with alopecia and just all of a sudden one day, look at this line right here. Look at that," she said in the video, pointing out a patch across her scalp.

"So it just showed up like that and this is going to be a little bit more difficult for me to hide. So I thought I'd just share it so y'all are not asking any questions."

"But you know mama's going to put some rhinestones in there. I'm going to make me a little crown. That's what mama's going to do."

The 50-year-old actor and talk show host captioned her Instagram video: "Mama's gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something. Me and this alopecia are going to be friends… period!"

One fan wrote, "gorgeous as always… it’s your tiara spot!", while another said, "Not many people could look even more gorgeous with their head shaved like you do !! It just brings out your gorgeous perfect cheekbones and bone structure..."

In June this year, the Matrix star said that after struggling with her condition for so long, she was ready to embrace baldness.

In an Instagram post, she revealed her daughter, Willow, inspired her to take the plunge and shave her head into a matching buzz cut.

"Willow made me do it because it was time to let go BUT ... my 50s are [about] to be divinely lit with this shed," she wrote on Instagram.
