Marvel actor Jeremy Renner has given his first interview since his horrific snowplough accident.

Actor Jeremy Renner has given his first in-depth interview since he was left fighting for his life following a snowplough accident in January this year.

Renner's exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer, titled A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph, will air in the US on ABC News on April 6.

ABC News' trailer for the interview was released today and sees the veteran broadcaster ask Renner questions like "Do you remember the pain?" to which Renner responds that he remembers "All of it, yeah. I was awake through every moment."

Renner's family members were interviewed by Sawyer for the program as the actor was crushed by a Sno-Cat when he stepped in front of the machine to prevent it from hitting his nephew.

The trailer also includes audio of the harrowing 911 call that was made after Renner was run over, in which the actor is heard audibly groaning. Sawyer then reads out the extensive list of injuries that Renner suffered, including shattered ribs, broken legs, extensive facial injuries, and a collapsed lung.

After being asked if, when he looks in the mirror, Renner sees the same face he had before the accident, he simply replied "I see a lucky man".

When did the accident happen?

Four days into the New Year, Marvel actor Jeremy Renner was left fighting for his life in a Nevada hospital bed.

The 51-year-old, who is known for playing Hawkeye in the Avengers, suffered a "traumatic injury" after ploughing snow near his home in Reno, in the US, on New Year's Day.

That morning, Renner was reportedly helping his nephew free his car from a snow build-up when the snowplough they were using began to roll and Renner was crushed beneath it.

"He was helping someone stranded in the snow," Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve told the Reno Gazette Journal shortly after the accident.

"He is always helping others."

The father-of-one, who was the only one injured in the incident, was later airlifted to hospital.

Renner's publicist Samantha Mast reported in a statement at the time that he was in a "critical but stable condition" in the intensive care unit after undergoing surgery due to "blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries".

The statement went on to thank the "incredible doctors and nurses looking after him" on behalf of his family.

"They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans."

Fellow actors took to social media to share messages of support for Renner.

"Prayers up for our brother @jeremyrenner on a full and speedy recovery. Please send healing goodness his way," his fellow Avengers co-star Mark Ruffalo wrote on Instagram.

He has also been keeping fans updated with the progression of his intensive physical therapy, including one post that notes that his "30 plus broken bones will mend, grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens."

Renner shares a daughter named Ava with his ex-wife, Canadian model and actor Sonni Pacheco, who he was married to for less than a year.
