Julia Fox's new story about Kanye West proves a concerning Kardashian theory has always been true.

Julia Fox has gotten candid about her brief relationship with Kanye 'Ye' West back in early 2022.

Kanye and Julia only dated for two months but their relationship received a huge amount of attention in January 2022, off the back of Kanye's public divorce from Kim Kardashian. 

In Fox's new memoir Down the Drain, the actress has shared what their relationship was really like in disturbing detail. In a book excerpt shared by Page Six, the Uncut Gems star said she first connected with West (referred to as 'the artist' in the memoir) when a friend said a “famous artist" had been "asking about me”, and requested her phone number.

After sharing her digits, Julia received a text which was “followed by dozens of phone calls.” During these phone calls, which lasted for hours, she said the conversations was mostly dominated by the rapper, with Fox "mostly" just listening. 

"When he does listen to me, he loves my ideas and thinks I’m really smart," she added. 

The couple had their first date in 2021 on New Year’s Eve in Miami. Fox initially declined the date invite, but then West offered to charter a private jet to pick up the actress and her friends. They met at a club, and Fox described the moment they hugged without saying a word and she felt West's "hands scanning the folds of my body,” she said.

“I know this is the beginning of something truly special." 

Kanye and Julia went into the parking lot to escape the club's loud music and Kanye started publicly urinating. “The artist starts peeing on the wall and I quickly jump in front of him,” she said, recalling yelling at bystanders watching that “‘You better not take any pictures!'” 

The celebrities then started to kiss. “Once he zips his pants back up, he puts his arms around me and pulls me in close, kissing me passionately,” she wrote. They then went to a party at a “famous rapper’s house on Star Island” where Fox recalls being told to stop dancing by one of West’s friends.

The following day, the couple attended dinner at Carbone in Miami, where Fox said that West bluntly asked the actor to be his girlfriend while a photographer captured “candid photos of us mid-sentence.”

That night, Kanye also spoke about Julia's fashion: he suggested appointing a team of stylists, and he agreed to hire two of her friends.

During the date, West asked, “How do you feel about taking our relationship public?” and by the next morning, Fox was awoken to a text from a reporter, who had photos from their Carbone date, which she suspected had been leaked by Kanye himself. 

The weirdness continued.

On another date at Carbone a few days later, this time in New York, Julia entered the bathroom to find racks of clothes waiting for her, along with a photographer there to snap photos of her trying on outfits. 

Fox said the experience left her feeling like a “show monkey.”

The couple returned to West’s hotel room where more clothes awaited the actress. As she tried on a slinky top that Fox said didn't fit right, he told her “I’ll get you a boob job if you want.”

The next day, Kanye sent the photos taken in his hotel room to Interview magazine, saying he wanted her to write a paragraph about how they met. “I feel like he’s using me in some weird, twisted game,” Fox said. “It makes me feel dirty.”

The relationship quickly started to derail. 

Firstly, Fox refused to sign an NDA she had been given. At a meeting in Paris, Fox said that West began listing everything that annoyed him about her. But then for her birthday, he gifted her and her friends five Hermès Birkin bags, along with more clothes that had been pre-approved by the rapper. 

“My friends are ecstatic, but I can’t shake off the feeling that this is more of a farewell gesture than a birthday present,” Fox wrote. 

When opening the Hermès Birkin bags, Julia and her pals had to re-create the reveal over and over. “We do as we’re told and awkwardly throw our arms up and scream for joy as he stands off in the background, looking on with pride,” she said. “As we pose like puppets, I question his true intentions, feeling that this grand gesture is nothing more than a publicity stunt.”

The next morning, Fox texted that she wanted to break-up after he ignored her at a nightclub. “If you loved me, you would support me,” West allegedly responded.

He urged her to sign the NDA, telling her “I can’t be friends with you if you don’t sign it,” he said. 

Fox replied, “I’ll live.”

This depiction of Kanye is radically different from how their relationship appeared to the public at the time. 

In the aforementioned article for Interview magazine, titled 'Date Night', the actress described their first meeting as "an instant connection," she wrote. "His energy is so fun to be around. He had me and my friends laughing, dancing, and smiling all night." 

Knowing the information shared by Fox was written under Kanye's direction, the Interview story now reads with a sinister undertone. 

"At the restaurant, Ye directed an entire photo shoot for me while people dined! The whole restaurant loved it and cheered us on while it was happening." she boasted. 

"After dinner Ye had a surprise for me. I mean, I’m still in shock. Ye had an entire hotel suite full of clothes. It was every girl’s dream come true. It felt like a real Cinderella moment." 

In retrospect, Kanye's persistent effort to dress Julia comes off as controlling. 

This isn't the first time Kanye has been accused of controlling how his partners dress: he famously told Kim to ditch most of her wardrobe on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, while his current wife Bianca Censori has adopted a noticeably different style since marrying the designer. 

In an interview to promote her memoir, Fox shared that she felt used by Kanye. “I thought ultimately I’d be helping a precarious situation, but I learned very quickly that I was being weaponised,” she told The Los Angeles Times.

“I just felt like his little puppet.”

Since ending her relationship with Kanye, Julia has taken a break from dating, instead focusing on her two-year-old son Valentino, who she shares with her ex-husband, Peter Artemiev.

“All the validation I could ever get, I get from my son – the love, the intimacy, the closeness," she said. 

“That romanticised idea of men doesn’t exist anymore."
