"It isn't easy on my own." Katie Price on homeschooling her son Harvey during COVID-19.

Katie Price has spoken candidly about the difficulties she is facing homeschooling her son Harvey during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, former glamour model and disability rights campaigner Price, 41, said while it was hard, she was doing the best she could on her own.

Harvey, 17, lives with autism, partial blindness and Prader-Willi Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects mental and physical development.

“I’m working hard home-schooling Harvey and we’re spending lots of time reading together. It isn’t easy on my own, but we’re making it work,” the mother-of-five told the publication.

Price’s children Junior, 14, and Princess, 12, are in lockdown with their father Peter Andre, his wife and their children Amelia and Leo.

Her youngest children, Jett, six, and Bunny, five, are in lockdown with their dad Kieran Hayler.

In late March, Andre said their son Junior had been showing symptoms of COVID-19 and was in isolation, but he was able to reunite with his dad and siblings last week.

Price told the Daily Mail she and Harvey had been using their time together to work on projects to support Britain’s National Health Service, including taking part in the weekly clap for the NHS that sees streets around the UK erupt with applause as the public show their appreciation for frontline workers while in lockdown.

“Harvey is delighted to be involved in the NHS campaign. He got involved with the clapping and I’m so proud of him,” Price said.

“We’re hoping to find a way to raise some money for the NHS to show how grateful we are for all they are doing.

“I trained as a nurse so it’s a cause very close to my heart.”

In 2019, Price spoke about the tough decision to place Harvey in residential care.

Speaking on British chat show This Morning, the mother-of-five said the decision to place Harvey into care at his boarding school was difficult but necessary.

“On Instagram, I only show him when he’s good. But he’s got a side to him. My house is smashed to bits. This year he has broken eight iPads and four TVs. Someone might bang the door and he’ll chuck something,” she told This Morning.

“Some people think I’m out of order [sending him into care] but people don’t understand the situation.”

Price explained to ITV that the teen would stay at the facility on weeknights, and that she would still be able to go have dinner with him and tuck him into bed. He would return home for weekends and holidays.

“I love him so much; he’s my life. It has taken me ages to be convinced this is the best place for him,” she said. “I would never want him to think I am palming him off – but I have no choice.”

Price, who cared for her son alone without respite, told the BBC last year she has to bath him, dress him and ensure he takes his medications.

A number of people criticised Price’s decision on social media, with some trolls accusing her of wanting to “replace” Harvey, following her recent announcement that she would like to adopt an orphan from Nigeria.
