'I tried that famous Laneige 'lip mask' everyone's obsessed with. Here's my honest review.'

Mamamia’s Tried and Tested series is your review of the latest to hit our desks in beauty, health and wellbeing. You won’t find any #sponsored content here, just honest, relatable and independent advice. This week, Mamamia's Senior Health and Beauty Writer reviews Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask.

Something you must know: When I was about 15, I went home sick from school because my lips were too dry.

I'd forgotten my lip balm and pretended I had a tummy ache. So I could go home. And put lip balm on.

¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

This, I think, gives you a snippet of just how essential - nay, CRUCIAL - lip products are to me. I usually have at least seven of them on the go at once. Bag is full of 'em. Car is full of 'em. Pockets are full of 'em.

However, while I'll regularly have a whole heap of them on the go at once, I'll rarely recommend lip products willy-nilly.

Watch: Psst... TikTokers are using eyelash glue to give them the appearance of bigger lips. Post continues below.

Whenever I mention I like a lip product on theYou Beauty podcast or on Mamamia, I *really* like it. No BS.

One I'm always fawning over? Korean brand Laneige's Lip Sleeping Mask. Check any beauty editor's bedside table and I guarantee you'll find this little tub.

It's such a cult product - and recently, it's absolutely exploded on TikTok and won a bunch of beauty awards (it's also up for 'best lip product' in our You Beauty Survey - have you voted for your faves yet? You can do that here!)

So, I thought I'd tell you everything you need to know about it. Here's my honest review.

What is the Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask?

Let's start with a bit of an introduction, shall we?

Pls, meet Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask.

We love.

And I know - the name 'Lip Sleeping Mask' sounds 10/10 confusing, but it's actually just a really thick balm that you can use at any time.

It's packed with hydrating ingredients that work to nourish your lips and comes in four delicious flavours - Gummy Bear, Berry, Sweet Candy and Vanilla (although sometimes they do special edition flavours).

My favourite? Gummy Bear.

In fact, Gummy Bear is everyone's favourite, I reckon. When it first launched, it sold out in a week.

You can grab it at Adore Beauty or Sephora and it costs $31 - a very spendy tub (20g) of lip product. So, you'd be forgiven for thinking it's a bit of a rort. Especially when my tub of Vaseline costs, like, $6.

But I promise you, it's a necessary splurge. Let me explain why...

Okay. What's so good about it?

It will single-handedly up your lip game by five hundred thousand. Used regularly (you gotta slap it on more than once before you judge it), you'll notice your lips just feel... better.

It locks in hydration and basically builds a seal of moisture, protecting your lips with a combination of antioxidants and hyaluronic acid.

I whack on a thick layer at night and wake up the next morning with smooth, moisturised lips.

I also pop it on throughout the day, and love that it makes my lips look glossy and plump.

The best part? It doesn't feel the faintest bit sticky and gross. Because, truly, there is nothing, NOTHING, worse than running to the bus and your hair blowing in your face and sticking to your lips and I honestly just... I can't with that.

Other than the texture and the way it makes your lips look and feel, the scent is just too darn good. I've tried most of the other flavours and while they're all delicious, the Gummy Bear version is my favourite sniff. I can't put my finger on it, but it's so nostalgic. Literally smells like childhood.

Is it grape-flavoured Hubba Bubba? Is it grape-flavoured Zappos?? HARD TO SAY. But I love it.

As for the packaging, it's bright and happy and weighty enough to not leave it in a jacket pocket and forget about it forever.

Plus, it lasts. A little goes a long way, so you'll have it for ages.

The verdict.

Okay, in case you've just scrolled down to hear the final thoughts (so cheeky!) the hype around the $31 viral Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is 100 per cent justified.

There. I said it.

It's just a really good product that does what it says it will do.

As someone who has always suffered from perpetually dry lips (see above - first line), I can honestly say my lips feel way softer, comfier and more hydrated when I'm using this. Aside from making them feel good, they actually look good too - juicy and happy.

So, if you've been tossing up whether to give it a whirl or not - I'd say doooo it.
