Laura Brown met her husband when he worked at a hotel. 7 years later, they had an A-list wedding.

In April this year, Laura Brown - the Australian former editor-in-chief of InStyle magazine - married her long-term boyfriend, writer and comedian Brandon Borror-Chappell in Hawaii.

The New York-based couple started dating in 2015 and have an age gap, which Borror-Chappell referenced in an article he wrote titled, "My girlfriend is way more successful than I am and is 16 years older."

For reference, Brown is 48 and Borror-Chappell is 32.

"I think the curiosity stems from a combination of genuine interest in the age gap between Laura and me and the fact that she is successful - and quite publicly so," Borror-Chappel said in the personal essay

Speaking to Mia Freedman on Mamamia's No Filter podcast a few years prior, Brown said she met Borror-Chappell by chance.

He was the breakfast waiter at a hotel she regularly stayed at - they started flirting and "had good banter".

"I never was particularly good at New York dating culture. I think as I sort of grew up and was established, I was glad to meet someone that just made me feel better," she said.

"My boyfriend thinks I'm really cool and do great stuff and that's it. There's no threat. There's something in that gap that in the right way can be great."

The couple got engaged in 2019 and had to postpone their wedding twice due to COVID.

Originally planned for October 2020, Brown and Borror-Chappell had to push it back - first to May 2021, then April 2022.

It ultimately worked out perfectly.

"We had that, sort of, lovely window when people could get out again," Brown told Mia Freedman on a new episode of No Filter.

There were over 200 guests in attendance; from family flying in from Australia - Brown grew up in Camden, NSW - to high profile friends, including the likes of Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jessica Alba.

"It was just a throwdown. Everyone was so excited, " Brown said of the big day.

"Everyone met everyone from all these different worlds - my sister Emily, who's a dairy farmer, was like the freakin' celeb. It was exactly what we wanted."

And the bride wore pink.

When Mia Freedman asked Brown how she decided on a pink wedding dress for her big day, the magazine editor replied without hesitation: "That was actually easy."

Brown started designing her wedding dress back in January 2020. She was always set on two things: who would design it and the colour.

"I was like, 'Who am I kidding? I'm not a virgin'," Brown, 48, said about choosing to wear pink.

"I don't know, I just wanted to wear pink. I think it's a bit more subversive," she said, adding how she had previously seen Gwen Stefani's pink dip-dyed wedding dress to Gavin Rossdale and loved it.

Brown's dress was designed by Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli.

"I think he's the most spectaular designer in the world," she told Freedman.

Piccioli created her custom Valentino dress, featuring an off-the-shoulder ruffle, tie-waist, pockets, and matching pink veil with lace trim.

The magazine editor was set on an off-the-shoulder dress because her aunt wore one when she got married in the '80s, and pockets because, duh.

"[You've got to have] pockets in your wedding dress. It just makes you feel... better," she said.

She continued the pink theme into the reception, swapping into a sparkly, also off-the-shoulder, Rodarte dress.
