Matty J and Laura Byrne's baby name front runner is a little bit... awkward.

Following their Instagram pregnancy announcement on Saturday, Matty J and Laura Byrne are finally able to talk about all the baby things expectant parents think about.

The couple who met on the 2016 season of The Bachelor have so far been open about sharing the details of their pregnancy, from their miscarriage earlier this year to their June, 2019 due date.

They’ve also started bringing up baby names.

Speaking on his radio show, Nova’s Summer Breakfast Show with Matt, Sarah and Matty J, Matty said one name currently on the list is kind of ironic because it also happens to be the name of… his work place?

“We have a baby naming app, and Laura passed the phone to me and she has a list of approved names. As I was going through it, there was Beau, there was Kai, and I looked at it and asked…. Nova?” he told his Nova co-hosts.

“She was like, yeah it kind of has a ring to it.”

We’re 93 per cent sure this is a joke, but also, Nova is a very on-trend baby name for 2019.

Other names the couple have brought up for their baby include River, Moon and Phoenix.

While none of the names mentioned so far made it onto rising baby names lists for 2019, they are all quite trendy.

Baby naming website Nameberry predicts global names (Bodhi, Kali and Zen), gender neutral names (Campbell, Journey, Justice), gemstone-inspired names (Jasper, Jet, Opal and Sapphire), and animal-inspired names (Bear, Falcon, Koala – yes, Koala – and Otter) will rise in 2019.

The couple also told Nova (as in, the radio station) they have a feeling their baby will be a boy, but haven’t decided yet if they will find or or reveal the baby’s gender.

On the weekend, Matty and Laura told The Daily Telegraph they chose to share their baby news at the 15 week mark because Laura had already begun to show, but ideally they would have kept her pregnancy on the down-low for a bit longer.

Instead, they announced the news by sharing their sonogram photos on Instagram.

“I’m so bad at keeping secrets so I’m EXTREMELY excited to let everyone know, we are having a little baby!” marketing manager turned radio host Matty J wrote on Instagram.

“@ladyandacat I love you more than words can describe and I can’t wait to start our family together. WE ARE GOING TO BE PARENTS!!”

Laura also posted similar images, saying “happy doesn’t even come close” to how they feel about the news.

“WE ARE HAVING A BABY!!!!Old mate @matthewdavidjohnson and I are beyond excited to finally be able to share that I’m cooking an orange sized baby Johnson-Byrne,” the jewellery designer said.

“Happy doesn’t even come close (Have a look at the last picture – it’s little hand is waving at everyone my heart).”

Regardless of the name or gender of their baby, there’s one thing we know for sure… the baby will make an adorable cousin to one of Australia’s favourite toddlers, Matty’s nephew George.
