Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have a very unique way of keeping their marriage passionate.

Decades ago, Nicole Kidman revealed one of the secrets to making her marriage work with Tom Cruise was leaving loved-up post-its around the place for each other.

However, considering how unhappily their marriage ended, we are daring to speculate that it may not have been enough.

These days, it seems that Kidman has decided to make an extra effort: she has adopted a significantly different strategy in her current marriage to Keith Urban. It’s so different, in fact, that it could be considered revolutionary, unique…and a little confusing to the rest of us.

And, like much of the glamorous Hollywood actor’s life, it’s something many of us would struggle to achieve, because it involves the forgoing of an essential part of life in 2018: texting.

[Pause for dramatic effect.]

Kidman has announced that she and Urban never text each other, but only speak on the phone when they can’t be together.

In an interview with Parade, the actor spoke about her twelve years of wedded bliss, which she attributes to this circa 1990 strategy.

“We’ve never texted,” Kidman told Parade.

“That is so not our relationship,” she added, revealing that the couple prefers “voice to voice and skin to skin”.

Don’t we all – but not necessarily with our significant others on a daily basis.

Explaining things further, Kidman said, "We talk all the time and we FaceTime but we just don’t text because I feel like texting can be misrepresentative at times."

So true, Nicole...and yet most of us still persist, because speaking on the phone sounds...labour intensive.

Ok fine, it also sounds like #relationshipgoals and #romance, and we are very happy that this unique approach to marriage, involving actually speaking to each other, has been so successful for them.

But we have some questions about how this works IRL:

  1. Are they ever tempted to text "bring home milk"? Or, more realistically and importantly, "Where did you leave the God damn TV remote control?"
  2. Do they ever get sick of speaking to each other (as every typical couple does occasionally/frequently)?
  3. What about when they're in opposing time zones? Do they seriously not send "You up?" texts?
  4. Is this really about strengthening communication in their marriage, or are they just tight-asses?
  5. WHAT ABOUT SEXTING?

Whatever the answers to these important questions might be, one thing remains clear: Kidman seems very chuffed  about their old-school approach to keeping the love alive in a marriage. It's something we could all only hope to achieve one day....we're just not sure we could ever love anyone enough to make the same sacrifice.
