"I’m in mourning every day of my life." Patricia Arquette's bittersweet Emmy win.

Three years ago, Patricia Arquette’s sister Alexis died from complications related to AIDS.

The fellow actress also happened to be transgender, and Patricia has used her Emmys award speech to tell the world that she is not just mourning her sister, she is mourning for the continued bias felt by trans people.

The nominated cast of Game of Thrones presented The Act star with an Emmy for outstanding supporting actress, after she beat out fellow nominees; Sharp Objects’ Patricia Clarkson, Fosse/Verdon’s Margaret Qualley, Chernobyl’s Emily Watson, as well as When They See Us’ Marsha Stephanie Blake and Vera Farmiga.

“I’m grateful to be working at 50 and to be getting the best roles of my life,” she began.

“But in my heart I am so sad I lost my sister Alexis, I’m in mourning the rest of my life. And I will be for the rest of my life, for you, until we change the world so that trans people are not persecuted.

“Give them jobs. They’re human beings. Let’s give them jobs. Let’s get rid of the bias that we have everywhere,” she said.

In 2016, Alexis died aged 47 surrounded by friends and family after a “long time suffering,” according to PEOPLE.

“She was sick for years,” a source told the publication at the time. “At one point, she wasn’t able to leave the house; she was in bad shape.”

Alexis was known for her roles in The Wedding Singer and Pulp Fiction and was a staunch advocate for transgender rights having herself transitioned in 2001.

After her passing, her brother Robert Arquette wrote on Facebook, "Our brother Robert, who became our brother Alexis, who became our sister Alexis, who became our brother Alexis, passed this morning September 11, at 12:32 am.

"He was surrounded by all of his brothers and sisters, one of his nieces and several other loved ones. We were playing music for him and he passed during David Bowie's Starman. As per his wishes, we cheered at the moment that he transitioned to another dimension."
