Richard Wilkins broke this very famous actor's heart.

We did not see this one coming. And we’re not even altogether sure why the story is here now. But it’s a good’un.

The year was 1987. Bob Hawke was leading our fine country, a 19-year-old Kylie Minogue had just released ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ and the pair least-likely-to-date-each-other-ever were dating. For realz.

A 22-year-old Rebecca Gibney was having a fling with 32-year-old Richard ‘Dickie’ Wilkins. And he broke her heart.

By cheating on her with a flight attendant.

“I was madly in love with him,” Rebecca told Fitzy and Wippa in an interview on Nova FM.

“I thought we had a future together…until that fateful day,” she laughed.

The Gold Logie winner explained that the pair were living in different cities at the time, she in Melbourne and he in Sydney – but they had been together for a while.

Dickie was visiting the Packed to the Rafters star in Melbourne and as he was boarding a plane, Gibney handed him a rose — which the ladies man then re-gifted to the flight attendant on the plane, Michelle Burke, who he’d been having a fling with, and who he later married.

Asked about their relationship now, Gibney said, “It was a bit messy for a little while because he did break my heart a little bit, but no we’re mates now. He’s a lovely guy, and I have no hard feelings at all because he has a good heart.

Gibney is now married to artist, Richard Bell. The couple have two young sons.
