Get your tissues ready.

The first trailer for an upcoming documentary about Robin Williams has been released, featuring intimate clips of the comedians life.

The HBO documentary, titled Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind will showcase the late comedians life through old interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with Williams’ friends, including Steve Martin, Whoopi Goldberg, David Letterman and Billy Crystal as well as his son, Zak Williams.

The documentary, which will be released on July 16, is largely narrated by Williams through the use of old recordings.

The new trailer features clips of Williams performing stand-up comedy sets throughout his hugely successful career.

In the beginning of the trailer, the comedian says, “stand-up is survival. For me, that’s jazz, that’s what I have to do”.

Williams also admits in a voiceover that he struggled with a “fear sometimes to run away from it all, sometimes to run into it all.”

The documentary, which was directed by Marina Zenovich, will delve into the greatest and darkest moments of Williams long career.

In the trailer, comedian and actor Steve Martin says, “he [Williams] was really comfortable on stage. Off stage it just felt he was holding himself together”.

Williams’ son, Zak, also sat down for an interview in the documentary saying, “My father didn’t always feel like he was succeeding, but he was the most successful person I know”.

Come Into My Mind will also take viewers through the timeline of Williams’ career, from his start on American sitcom Mork and Mindy to his Academy Award-winning performance in Good Will Hunting and his lovable performance in comedy Mrs Doubtfire.

The documentary comes after Williams took his own life in 2014 at the age of 63.

Throughout his life, Williams struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. An autopsy revealed that the actor had also suffered from little-known Lewy body dementia.
