Tom Hardy wrote the most beautiful eulogy for his dog Woodstock.

Tom Hardy loves dogs. So much so that there’s a Twitter account exclusively dedicated to the actor and his love of dogs.

But one dog was particularly close to Hardy’s heart, his “bestest friend ever” Woodstock, a yellow Labrador mix rescued from a toll road in Georgia Atlanta when he was just a stray puppy.

The pair have been inseparable for years but sadly, after being sick for six months, Woody has passed away at age six, leaving his 39-year-old owner understandably devastated.

Hardy, who is known for his tough on screen persona in films like The Revenant, wrote a hearth-achingly tender tribute his late pet on his blog which has triggered an outpouring of grief for the animal on social media.

Topped with a nine-minute YouTube slideshow of their happiest moments together – set to ‘Young Hearts Run Free’ – the post explains how Hardy found the 11-week-old, dog who was all flapping ears and big brown eyes, and brought him into his family.

“I will always be eternally grateful to Georgia. It gave me the greatest of joys of being a dog owner and the bestest of friends,” he writes.

Woody was a regular on movie sets and red carpets and “[without] a bad bone in his body” became beloved by many.

He even climbed to number 73 on last year’s most influential animal list in TIME magazine.

“Thankyou Woody for choosing to find us. We will love you and be with you and you with us forever. Never ever ever forgotten.

“I love you beyond words. To the moon and back again and again to infinity and beyond.”
