5 key investments to make your winter wardrobe work harder for you, according to a fashion stylist.

I don't know about you, but I'm someone who has far too many unworn clothes – because most days, I'm in my same go-to tops, pants and outerwear.

With the 'quiet luxury' trend taking off post-Succession and the cost-of-living crisis forcing us to re-prioritise where our money goes, this winter's wardrobe staples are very much good quality basics.

Pieces you can feel good about spending your money on because you know you'll reach for them often, mixing and matching them with other things in your wardrobe.

Nicole Adolphe is The Iconic's Head of Style, and in an interview with Mamamia, she shared the 5 key investments to make your winter wardrobe work harder for you. Here's what she told us.

1. A trench coat.

"These are an absolute must-have in your winter wardrobe, as they offer versatility and style, particularly during the cooler months," Nicole says.

"With so many designs, fabrics and colourways on offer, it really is a staple we should all invest in."

2 A winter dress.

"Winter dresses can be worn for just about any occasion," Nicole tells us, before explaining how.

"You can wear one to work with a blazer and some loafers; you can wear one to brunch with your friends with a knit vest and some boots.

"You can even style a winter dress more casually to run errands, pairing it with your favourite white sneakers and a leather jacket or a knit sweater over top."

3. High-waisted wide-leg pants.

"The silhouette looks stylish, and you can team them with an oversized blazer and a crop," she says.

"They work with sneakers, boots, loafers and sandals."

These are the stylist's favourite:

Aere Linen Wide Leg Pants With Deep Waist, $120.

"They are my go-to for work, whether it's in the office or on-set," Nicole says.

"It’s perfect to team back with a tee and blazer but I also like that I can dress this up and pair it with a belt."

4. A good pair of jeans.

Obvi!

"Jeans are a must, all year round," the stylist tells us. "Straight jeans are a timeless style, as they are not too skinny or wide-legged."

"Levi’s Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans, ($159.95), are always a popular choice, as the high-rise length sits perfectly on the waist, making it a flattering style."

5. A warm, knit jumper.

"A cozy knit, in alpaca or mohair, and in a neutral colour is perfect for layering," Nicole says.

"It’s also an easy way to incorporate some colour into your wardrobe, if you’re looking to brighten up your wardrobe."

Here are some of her top picks:
