'I co-host Australia's biggest beauty podcast. Here's what a day in my life looks like.'

Once upon a time, I called my best friend to tell her about the terrible day I'd had. You see, as a beauty content creator, I had received an exciting new mascara in the mail that day and excitedly shared it on my social media without reading the press release that very clearly said 'UNDER EMBARGO' in bold letters at the top.

If a product is under embargo, it basically means that the 'general public' aren't allowed to know about this fancy new product because it isn't available to purchase in stores yet. So I had broken the rules and then had a very cross brand manager chasing me and scolding me for my grave error.

My best friend, who is a nurse doing a Very Important Job, listened to me before telling me she had also had a bad day. Her bad day, and my bad day... not even on the same scale, it turns out.

All things aside, I know that I'm not changing the world (or people's lives like she is!), but I do think that there's plenty of room for entertainment; we all need to be cheered up and given a good distraction in our days with fun or frivolous things. So whether that's through my humbling and humiliating #mascaragate story, or a damn good product recommendation on theYou Beauty podcast you'll remember for the next time you're wandering past the Myer beauty counters, I take that role very seriously.

So here's a glimpse into what an 'average' day actually looks like as an extremely serious beauty podcast host and content creator.

Morning.

Every morning, without fail, I'm woken by soft bleats from my son's room. They gradually get louder as he tries to get my attention, and starts yeeting his dummies out of the cot so I can hear them thwacking against our adjoining wall. We get up and get ready, which generally takes little time as I try and have everything prepped the night before.

I drop Lenny at daycare before heading to the gym for a very intense workout (read: watching TV on the cardio machines while barely breaking a sweat). Then I grab an overpriced iced coffee and head home to get ready.

I like to keep everyone guessing about which Kelly they will get. Are you going to get Kelly dressed whipping out the boujee SkinCeuticals (IYKYK), in proper clothes and a full makeup beat, or Kelly who commits to sunscreen and neglects the rest? Lately we've been working on the contenders and sorting finalists in Mamamia's very first You Beauty Awards with presenting partner Myer, it's inspired me to go with a full beat!

Lately I've been loving Benefit Cosmetics when getting ready for Mamamia office days. Their Gimme Brow and Brow Wizz products, OOF! So good, both of which are in the Youbie top 5, and I can't decide which one I prefer; THEY'RE BOTH SO GOOD YET DO SUCH WILDLY DIFFERENT THINGS.

After I'm ready, I drive into Sydney CBD and grab a park before buying myself another overpriced iced coffee and a toasted veggie sandwich near the Mamamia offices. If sandwiches were part of the Awards, this particular one would win hands down.

Midday.

Because I don't work as a freelancer for Mamamia, I don't technically have a desk, but the office is designed for collaborative work, and I always find somewhere to perch myself before loudly distracting everyone around me who probably really regret my seat choice. I check my locker and see if any beauty PR deliveries have arrived; maybe something fab as a last-minute player in the You Beauty Awards, who knows!

I head into record a You Beauty podcast episode with my co-host Leigh, and we immediately start bantering because we've been podcasting together for so long. Our conversations are as smooth as the Dyson Air Wrap so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (like what I did there?).

Afternoon.

After recording the podcast, I would usually do some fun video content with the social media team for the podcast Instagram, or I spend some quiet time answering emails. My afternoons are generally dependent on whether I have a work event or social dinner to go to, if I do, I stick around in the city, but otherwise, I head back home and go pick up my baby.

Evening.

I take my post-shower beauty regime INCREDIBLY seriously; it makes me so happy! I'll pop on a show or podcast, brush my hair, do my skincare, apply a really nourishing body product... the whole works. What sort of beauty content creator would I be if I simply rolled into bed sans routine? This is generally the time that I'll go through my skincare products and decide what's staying or what will be swapped out for another beauty product I want to try.

I get asked so often about how I trial so many things without ruining my skin, and I've got my processes very organised so that doesn't happen. Basically, I'll swap products in categories, I don't often introduce a completely new step, instead, it will be 'ok, I've tried this new hyaluronic acid serum or exfoliant and I don't love it, so I'm going to swap something trusted back in (like the Estée Lauder ANR Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex Serum or Alpha-H Liquid Gold Exfoliating Treatment. Worth the long names, they've never failed me yet!).

With body, hair and makeup, it's obviously a lot easier to trial products, but I still use this time to rotate things and make sure I'm trialling enough products in enough categories.

It sounds so silly, but I really do take my recommendations so seriously! I always think of loved ones and how I would feel about them spending their hard-earned money on something – although I often can't confirm they will love it (everyone is so different), I need to make sure I've tried and loved a product enough to feel comfortable with that recommendation.

Afterwards, I'll either puzzle, read or watch TikToks and then I try to be in bed by 10pm-ish!
