Blondies will know the drill. You leave your hairdresser, bank account bruised but with hair that looks bright and beautiful. A win, at the least.

…then the breakage starts.

…and the brassiness kicks in.

And suddenly the already large sum of money you spent at the salon gets bigger and bigger with the dream of replicating day one of your professional wash and guys have you noticed – your run-of-the-mill shampoo and conditioner just doesn’t cut it anymore. Sad news indeed.

Yeah… I know this routine well.

So well in fact, that after bleaching my hair beyond repair one too many times, I seem to have found the method that’s helped me say see ya to yellow tones and hello to soft, shiny locks.

Has it taken me several hours of internet trawling for haircare tips, and far too much spending on all the ‘blonde-specific’ products under the sun? Maybe so.

But I’m glad to be of service.

So I thought it’d only be fair to share my tried-and-true haircare tips for my bleached hair guys and girlies, and by extension those of you with dry, frizzy hair - coloured or not. But that’s not all! I’ve also pulled beauty’s best curly hair tips too, because we nourish all hair types around here.

We see you. We feel you. And we are on this journey with you.

Bleached hair

Starting off with bleached hair of course, because you all already know how hard it is to find a product that takes to brittle hair… but I’ve got one for you… or three.

Toni & Guy’s Purple range will give your hair that salon quality finish, and you can also buy it at the supermarket, which is very important to me.

In case you haven’t heard, purple shampoo and conditioners are really where it’s at for kicking brassiness to the curb. They work by neutralising yellow tones, which will brighten and add shine to blonde hair. Toni & Guy of course have a Purple shampoo and conditioner in their range which are great for regular use, but their real standout product is the Toning Mask

Hair masks are a godsend for bleached hair because chances are, dryness is an issue for you, as it is me. This Toni & Guy product does all your typical hair mask wonders - boosting hydration, silkiness and shine all with the added benefit of toning blonde hair.

An all-in-one product? Game-changer.

Once you have your products covered, there’s a few maintenance tips that will last you the long run.

One week after your bleach, you better be running back to the salon for a trim. Split ends are the sneaky killer for bleached hair and this will seal your ends at just the right time.

Chlorine is not your best friend anymore. Sorry! But if you must go for a swim and you’re not interested in swim capping it up, lather on some conditioner, pull your hair into a bun and wash it out immediately afterwards.

You’ve been warned…

Dry, frizzy hair

So, your hair is crying out for nourishment? Same.

Landing a perfect hair day may be few and far between thanks to your complete hair unpredictability, but not for long.

First, no more drying your hair with the same towel you use on your body. I get it, it’s convenient, but microfibre towels are going to be your best friend with none of the friction.

Oh, and while we’re on that... the rumours are true. Silk pillowcases (and silk scrunchies) are super gentle on your hair and a worthy investment if frizz is your biggest concern. An added benefit of the pillowcases too is that they’re also great on skin, so enjoy the double win.

Like our bleached hair friends, conditioning, nourishing masks are a good idea, and you can follow them up with a hair oil while your hair is drying! Just be sure to leave some time between your washes (yes, this is your permission - spend less time on your hair).

Curly hair

Put the straightener down, Stacey.

Because the trick to managing curly hair… well it starts with embracing, and working with it.

Now, I want to preface this section by saying, ‘curly’ is a pretty large umbrella hair type term. First, I want you to identify your hair type within the hair type.

Do you have coils? Wavy hair? Or maybe your hair forms ringlets, in which case, curly covers it.

But, and I’m sure you don’t need to hear this from me, the number one thing you can cut from your current routine is dry brushing your hair.

Let’s not iron out all your beautiful texture, please. If you need to detangle your hair, use a wet brush or a wide-tooth comb in the shower while lathered up with conditioner.

Shower done? Let’s talk about the drying process.

Say hello to the scrunch. Flip your head upside down, grab a leave-in conditioner and start scrunching your hair up towards your head.

Then wait… because heat is out. And air drying is in.

When you’re looking to get another day out of complying hair - pop them into some braids before bed and wake up with manageable hair. No more morning tangles.
