As Jeremy Allen White's career exploded, his personal life was taking a different turn.

Jeremy Allen White is the name on Hollywood's lips right now.

The actor, who rose to fame playing the pivotal role of Lip Gallagher on Shameless for over a decade, debuted in a new show on FX last year, The Bear

In the series, he takes on the character of Carmy Berzatto, a chef who inherits a failing sandwich shop following the death of his brother.

After a successful season one and two, the series has officially been renewed for season three; and White has cemented himself as a Hollywood It Boy.

Born to theatre-actor parents, White grew up studying ballet, jazz and tap dance in New York before making a pivot at 11 years old. Dissatisfied with the programmes on offer, he decided to pursue acting instead.

Right before graduating high school, White landed the role of Philip 'Lip' Gallagher, the eldest son of alcoholic Frank Gallagher (played by William H. Macy) in Shameless.

He spent 11 seasons on the dark comedy before the show wrapped up in 2021.

Being tied to one TV series for over a decade had its toll though, with White telling GQ he had doubts about his future as an actor.

"I stopped feeling like an actor and I started feeling like I was just here to do this show," he confessed in November 2022. "When it was going to end, I was questioning: maybe I do just exist on this show. What else is there?"

Luckily for him, he was about to get the opportunity of a lifetime.

To prepare for his role in The Bear, the actor not only had to learn how to cook, but how to be a good cook.

He enlisted in a culinary school and was required to work in restaurants and serve food to customers he made himself.

"To dive into the culinary world and learn a character through this skill that’s so important to the story, was really exciting," he explained to Interview Magazine

"I’ve never practised a skill this much for a role before. I’ve always had a lot of respect for chefs and the art of cooking, but my respect has only grown exponentially."

The show was an instant success and opened up a lot of doors for White.

"When the show came out, the phones rang... it’s definitely shifted," he told GQ

"It was just like instant attention," White continued. "I felt like that pretty girl who just hadn’t taken her glasses off yet."

As White's career underwent major changes, so did his personal life.

He met fellow actor and future wife Addison Timlin in high school and instantly fell for her. However, she wasn't available.

"I was instantly very much into her and she, me too, I think," he shared with GQ in June 2022"But she had a boyfriend. I was just so clumsy about all that stuff."

The pair reunited again when they were 17 years old and set to appear in the same film, Afterschool, alongside Ezra Miller.

They never publicly announced their relationship but in 2013, Timlin hinted to it in Harper’s Bazaar.

"I’ve got a sweetheart who I will not disclose," he shared. "We have a nice foundation from being friends for a long period of time, and then it took a hard turn right into romance."

It wasn’t until 2016 that they became Instagram official, with Timlin sharing a photo captioned, "Welcome to Instagram to my ride or die guy."

White and Timlin welcomed their first daughter Ezer Billie on October 20, 2018.

They later got married among close friends and family in 2019 and in 2022, Timlin gave birth to their second daughter Dolores.

White gushed about his wife in January when he won the 2023 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Actor in a Musical or Comedy Series for his role in The Bear.

"Addison Timlin, I love you deep in my bones. Thank you for all you do. Thank you for everything you’ve done," he said during his acceptance speech.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you."

She reciprocated the love in an Instagram post where she shared a photo of the actor with his award.

"When we were 14 years old and I saw you perform for the first time in drama class, I couldn’t take my eyes off of you," she wrote.

“I love this picture so much because you look 14 and 31 at the same time... watching you win on Tuesday was one of the most overwhelming dimension-hopping moments of my whole life, watching you win last night while holding our two babies was pretty out of this world too."

In May, just five months after the emotional speech, TMZ reported Timlin had filed for divorce from White after more than three years of marriage.

Later that month, Timlin shared her thoughts on co-parenting on Instagram.

"Co-parent is not how I pictured it. It is so f**king hard. It is all out covered in s**t crying on the floor kick you in the shins screaming with no sound coming out hard," she admitted.

"It's not the natural order of things. It can be exhausting but more than anything it can just be so lonely.

"Doing it alone has given me more strength and more empathy and more tears than anything else in my life ever has," she continued.

In 2024, White won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in The Bear. However, he didn't thank Tomlin, only their daughters.

White's next project is alongside Zac Efron in the A24 biopic The Iron Claw.
