the pick-me girl, a girl who craves the validation of men so badly
When my sister was at her high school, she couldn't stand that all the girls would talk about was how they could get the boys to like them; and wanted to move to a certain all-girls school. But then she spoke to a girl who was at that school, and was told there, it was even worse.

the Facebook page 'Sis, Is This Your Man', which spotlights men on dating apps who are allegedly big ol' red flags
I think it's also just to ask if a man you are interacting with is actually in a relationship or also interacting with other women.

she was paying for almost everything in the last three years ... because Barry quit his job
Barry and his three boys moved into Jo's $6 million home
Huh? A non-rich single father can get into a relationship with a rich woman, quit his job, have her pay for almost everything, and move himself and his three kids into her $6M home? I did not know such women existed.

@odessa3 Do you mean hustle and hustler?

And I see his visa has now been denied.

he wouldn't hold my hand ... His favourite physical touch move? A crisp high-five.
LOL! I've never seen a couple high-five.

"On the first date, I'm like, alright let's do the pretty dress and get the tits out. By the second date, if there is even one, I'm throwing on a T-shirt, shorts and a baseball cap and the bloke is like 'where's Bianca gone?"
LOL! But then, isn't that how some men turn up for the first meeting?

If someone is going to pay $3M+ for a house in regional Victoria, would they really expect there to be four other houses right alongside?

@rush I used to run social club events for people in their mid-thirties onwards, so I'd meet a lot of people in that situation. Absolutely never had one such man all happy, saying "Oh, just got out of a relationship; really enjoying being single!".

Actually, I laugh as I write that, because it was absolutely always the complete opposite.

@rubyro . I don’t know anyone in my life (50yo+) that has had cosmetic work [...] it is not as commonplace as it is made out to be in the media.
As per the article, I think it's very common among women with significant discretionary income.

I thought every woman wanted to have short hair, but they couldn't ... because men prefer long hair
(Alà a certain Friends episode) is it actually the case that some women encourage a woman to cut her hair short so, surreptitiously, (they believe) it would make them less attractive to men?

women my age disappearing quietly and subtly
Is it true that prior to the advent of major anti-aging cosmetic procedures - which I assume would have been cosmetic surgery in the '70s - when famous women known for their glamour aged, they would withdraw from public view?

my DMs filled with messages from women ... saying they'd never seen someone talk about divorce without bitterness
Not specifically divorce, but I used to always come across women saying: "Just got out of a relationship; really enjoying being single".
But funnily, don't think I've ever come across a man saying that

Behind every "biological clock" story is someone who might be fighting battles we can't see
But I remember women writing articles basically defending Aniston for not having children. Why, if a woman is successful in a vocational field and doesn't have children, do we assume that she has made a deliberate decision not to have children?
We can stop treating motherhood as the ultimate measure of a woman's worth
Yes. And I think a major step in that direction would be to stop making the first thing we have to know about every woman is if she (is married and) has children.

Rollins works with high-profile clients, including wealthy founders
Ummm, what are "founders"? (And are there poor ones too?)

don't get me started on the rule that bans men from having public [social media] accounts ... How, pray tell, do you expect me and my best friends to stalk you, then? What else am I meant to talk about during Sunday brunch?
Hmmm.... so SATC was real.

simple simon September 25, 2025

@thirstykirsty People who are new to a city (or country) don't really count as being "truly open to new friendships". They are in a situation where that is what they need to be; they are not choosing to, they have to.

And you're comment about first gen's seems a bit contradictory.

The reality is, OnlyFans creators do face legitimate hurdles when applying for mortgages. As self-employed borrowers with fluctuating incomes, they're often seen as high-risk borrowers by lenders.
Yes, I think that is the reason; not morality. Someone might make huge amounts of money initially on OF, but a lender needs to be wary that this will be both consistent and long term.

when friendships do end, sometimes they can come back into your life
Hmmm... and I have a theory on this: I think when people suddenly don't have anyone, they go back to old friendships (and/or relationships) when they quickly discover it's actually very difficult to make new friendships.
