The last time Taylor Swift was in Australia with a boyfriend, the public had a different reaction.

He's here. The big man himself has arrived. It's been a long time coming. 

Travis Kelce has entered Australia after catching girlfriend Taylor Swift's private jet to Sydney. This follows months of speculation that Kelce would join Swift for her Eras Tour while she was Down Under. 

Tay-Tay fans eagerly tracked Kelce's flight (he stopped in Hawaii for those playing at home) and the paparazzi followed him as he and Swift went on a date on Thursday to Sydney Zoo. 

This was the second zoo visit Taylor had in two days because no one can resist Australia's cutest and cuddliest native animals... or the chance to have a private tour of the zoo for you and your entourage. Must be nice! 

Kelce is expected to attend his girlfriend's first show at Sydney Olympic Park which will likely prompt countless photos and videos of the Super Bowl winner grooving along to Taylor's hits.

The world just can't get enough of America's favourite couple. It's a love story, baby just say yes etc etc! 

But it wasn't always this way for Taylor Swift. On her previous tours of Australia in recent years, her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn didn't join her in the country's capital cities. 

But Swift has stayed in Australia with a boyfriend before — and it's a real throwback.

Let me take you back to a mind-bending year in the history of pop culture: 2016. 

In many ways, this period had a lot of parallels with right now. 

Taylor Swift was on top of the world. She was riding high off the success of her biggest album to date, 1989, which spawned a sell-out world tour, and she was in a high-profile relationship with another popular celebrity. 

Nope, not another NFL player: this time it music icon, Calvin Harris.

The famous two dated for 15 months but called it quits in June, 2016. 

This brings us to July, 2016. Taylor was staying on Australia's Gold Coast. Why? She was now dating British actor, Tom Hiddleston, who was filming Thor: Ragnarok down here. 

Taylor debuted her new romance just two weeks after it was confirmed that she and Harris had split. 

This would be like if Swift and Kelce broke up and two weeks later, she was suddenly dating actor Barry Keoghan (which tbf, would be especially scandalous given her Eras opener Sabrina Carpenter is reportedly dating him).

The public were confused over how the popstar could bounce back so fast, with rumours spinning that Swift and Harris had ended badly. 

And Harris did very little to dissuade the public from believing there was (pardon the pun) bad blood between them. While Swift was in Queensland, Harris sent a barrage of tweets aimed at his ex. 

The drama came from Calvin's hit song with Rihanna 'This Is What You Came For', which was co-written with Swift, a fact that only came out after their relationship had ended. 

Harris accused his ex's representatives of trying to humiliate him by revealing Swift as the co-writer when he said it was his ex who had requested a pseudonym be used. 

"Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though," he tweeted."I figure if you're happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex-BF down for something to do." Yikes. 

The music producer also confirmed a widespread rumour that Swift was in a feud with Katy Perry, which she reportedly sang about in 'Bad Blood'. "I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it," he wrote. 

It was a lot! 

All the while, Taylor was holidaying in Australia with her new movie star boyfriend.

Unlike Australia's enthusiastic response to Kelce's presence in our nation, the response to Taylor and Hiddleston uniting in Queensland was not met with the same positivity. 

At best, people were concerned the British actor was just a rebound, they were worried Taylor moved on too fast from Calvin, and speculated that Tom's film career may never recover. 

At worst, some thought that Hiddleswift (as they became known as in the media) was a publicity stunt. 

Earlier that same month, people were left baffled when Hiddleston was photographed attending Swift's Fourth of July beach party wearing an 'I Heart TS' singlet. 

No one knew what to make of this couple. They were deeply unserious. 

They weren't endgame like Taylor and Travis are considered by many fans.

Instead, they were just... a bit cringe. 

2016 would spell the beginning of when the troubles began for Swift. She was already copping heat for her overexposure, her feud with Perry and her expanding 'squad' of supermodel friends. 

But then a few days after Taylor was spotted in Queensland, Kim Kardashian released an edited phone call that would set the world ablaze. But that's a whole other story! 

Meanwhile, Taylor and Tom had officially split by September. 

Luckily for Taylor, Travis' visit to Australia was embraced. Let's just hope these two crazy kids stay together, or else we could have another Hiddleswift scenario on the horizon.
