When Alice Hart was nine years old, both her parents died in a mysterious house fire. Sent to live with her protective grandmother June at Thornfield flower farm, Alice learns to process the trauma of her past through the healing power of flowers. In time, Alice uncovers her family’s secret past and the secrets she has buried deep inside herself.

That’s the premise of The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, the new Prime Video series based on Australian author Holly Ringland’s best-selling debut novel of the same name. The first three episodes of The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart will launch exclusively on Prime Video on August 4 globally, with one episode dropping every Friday until September 1.

From the award-winning producers of Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers, the seven-part series is a coming-of-age story, a compelling mystery, and a courageous tale of female resilience. It’s guaranteed to hook you in from the very first episode, as you become invested in Alice’s story and in finding out the truth of her past.

It features an incredible local and international cast including Hollywood actress Sigourney Weaver (Avatar, Ghostbusters), Australian acting royalty Asher Keddie (Offspring, Nine Perfect Strangers), AACTA 2022 Best Lead Actress winner Leah Purcell (The Drover's Wife), Alycia Debnam-Carey (Saint X), and Frankie Adams (The Expanse). Other cast members include Alexander England, Charlie Vickers, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Sebastián Zurita, Alyla Browne and Xavier Samuel.

At the heart of the series is Alice Hart, portrayed with depth and vulnerability by the talented Debham-Carey. Alice endures a traumatic childhood marked by loss, abuse, and secrets, which forces her to retreat into her imagination and the solace of flowers. As she grows older, Alice embarks on a transformative journey, seeking to break free from the shackles of her past. Through her relationships with the women she encounters along the way, she discovers the power within herself to heal and find her voice.

Through this journey Alice also discovers that there are secrets hidden with secrets of her family’s past.

Set against the magical backdrop of Northern Territory, inside her grandmother's vibrant flower farm of wild Australian natives, the series masterfully weaves together the past and present, delving into Alice’s childhood and her present-day struggles to come to terms with her past. 

As the series progresses, Alice finds herself fighting for her life against the man she loves. 

The series features incredible performances from Sigourney Weaver as Alice’s hardened grandmother June, and Asher Keddie and Alexander England, as a local couple who become invested in Alice’s story.

Whilst this series explores family complexities with a serious tone, the storyline's use of flowers to tell Alice’s story makes it a joy to watch. Each flower Alice encounters along her journey represents a different aspect of her life, reflecting her emotional state and growth. 

The vibrant colours and delicate petals serve as visual metaphors, emphasising the transformative power of nature and its ability to heal the deepest wounds. The series is directed by Glendyn Ivin (Penguin Bloom, Safe Harbour), whose cinematography expertly captures the essence of the flowers; infusing the series with a poetic and visually stunning quality.

While The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart tackles serious issues such as domestic violence, intergenerational trauma and the quest for identity, it is ultimately an uplifting story of survival and self-discovery, making it a must watch series for 2023.
