David Sutcliffe played Gilmore Girls’ most hated character. In real life, he’s so much worse.

Gilmore Girls is about as wholesome as a show can get.

The iconic '00s series by Amy Sherman-Palladino followed the lives of a mother-daughter duo, played by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, living in the permanently autumnal town of Stars Hollow. 

It's a perfect warm-blanket of a TV show. In fact, it's one of my favourite shows of all time. 

This means that when someone comes along to taint this perfect seven-season TV experience, I get very irritated.

It's time to talk about David Sutcliffe.

David played the controversial father figure Christopher in the series. As Rory's flaky dad and Lorelai's non-committal ex, he came in and out of the series, often with devastating consequences for our beloved Gilmore gals. 

Christopher was not a liked character. In fact, he was one of the most hated. 

The dominant love story that carried the series was between Lorelai and Luke (Scott Patterson), and Christopher had a proven pattern of interfering with Lorelai's happiness. 

Anyways, that's the character. Now let's discuss the man who plays him. 

Sutcliffe is a Trump-voting, Capitol riot-supporting misogynist who spreads his hateful messages under the guise of self-help. 

He hosts a podcast The Psychosphere which platforms disgusting human troll and alleged sex trafficker, Andrew Tate. 

On the latest episode of his podcast, David went on a rant about why women, ummm... shouldn't be allowed to vote.

"Women shouldn't vote," his unhinged rant began.

"We need to take away the vote. Look where it’s gotten us! You can’t have women in charge. Women actually don’t want to look at reality... men look at the harsh reality of a certain aspect of life. Women don’t, they’re not interested in that.”

A female co-host then asked him to explain what 'aspect' women aren't interested in.

“The harsh brutality, the primal nature," he replied.

"It’s men who are watching nature videos of lions eating gazelles alive. Men are interested in that, they want to face that, they want to look at that. There’s a truth of nature that’s there.”

This is what happens when we let anyone start a podcast, especially deranged men who watch too much Animal Planet. 

I had a quick scroll through David's other podcast episodes (I'm absolutely not listening to them in full) and in one tone-deaf comment, he said he planned on making 'Jewish jokes' in an episode about the Israel-Gaza war which has resulted in the death of over 18,000 Palestinians and 1,200 Israeli people. 

When he's not making jokes about people being massacred, he's spouting men's rights activist propaganda on Instagram, saying men don't want to commit to women anymore as "they're not needed, they're not necessary," he said.

"It's been a rallying cry from feminists for as long as I can remember. It's nonsense, of course."

So what gives this man the right to share any sort of advice? 

On David's website, he describes his qualifications as a "somatic practitioner", who is "certified in core energetics" from training at the Radical Aliveness Institute of Southern California and Institute of Core Energetics in New York City. 

"I have been coaching, leading groups, workshops, and trainings since 2011," he said, adding "Before that, I was an actor best known for my role in the TV series Gilmore Girls."

Based on his learnings, Sutcliffe is selling access to his 'Life Force' workshops which will get you 15 hours of Zoom session with David, weekly homework, and access to an 'accountability group'.

Sutcliffe was born in Canada and before getting his big break on Gilmore Girls, he made small appearances on Friends, Will & Grace, and Two of a Kind. 

When Gilmore Girls ended after seven seasons, he starred in Private Practice and for one season of the Canadian police crime drama, Cracked. 

In 2016, he reprised the role of Christopher for just one scene in Gilmore Girls: A Year in The Life.

Given everything we now know, it might be time for Gilmore Girls fans to reinforce their allegiances to Team Luke. Or hell, Team Digger will suffice.
